I've got a feeling that Denon have either got plans for a new line because of the medicore reviews or they are just not selling enough so the prices are getting silly.
 
I like the new line, the D7100 and D600 is excellent. In the UK the D7100 are about £430 which is in the same price league as the Shure SRH1540.
 
I swear I am the only one here who likes the D7100! I've seen post saying they sound like a muddy fart cannon that isn't worth $300. I do wonder if they have actually heard the headphone with these comments! The D600 soundscpretty much the same but is a bit sharper/brighter and slightly thinner. Both do have this issues with the soundstage where there is no centre, it's basically really wide left to right. It's not bad though, it's kind of speakers in the corner of the room like.

Seems lots of guys joined the mob mentality and panned the 600 and 7100 without hearing them.  I'm a early model Denon fanatic, have owned them all and still have the D2000 and D7000, both customized, love them, but also love my D600.  A lot.  It's a different animal but I prefer some things about it - the isolation and stock pads are outstanding in my opinion.  Almost pulled the trigger on a 7100 last week when I found one used for $500ish.............but just didn't do it.  I've heard it uses everything the same as the 600 except for the wood cups, which should result in a bit of an improvement.

based on the two posts above, am thinking a little patience and a watchful eye may nab a $300 to $400 AH-D7100 when the new Denons come out...hmmmm

I've d7100 and they're superb out of iPhone or iBasso dx100.

For enjoying lively music on portables I question if there is a better headphone.

Congratulations ! you just saved $500 yourself  We are both Denon fans (and now fostex) but D7100 is just ....(no comments)
 
Anyways, I actually bought it longtime ago and returned it within 30 days.
 
I thought I had a really bad pair and went back to Bay Bloor Radio here in Toronto and auditioned many many times and it's just not worth $500.
I will probably buy for movies or tv for $200 for my mom, as she often uses headphones but that's about it.
 
Sorry if you already own D7100, but there are better ones at $200-$300 range.

Haha funny, muddy fart cannon. I am not sure how that sounds but here is what I think.
If you are coming from low-fi or entry level headphones like DT880 premium series, HD595 etc you will find D7100 awesome since lack of experience in other mid/high end headphones.
 
I went through all that and I skip all the low/mid headphones, (except T70, a long story..), so it's all relative what or how you read in this thread. If you are evaluating D7100 as a highend then you will probably say "WHAT T.."
 
If you are coming from low-fi, you will love D7100 .

I've been all around midfi and hifi and I think the D7100 are awesome they are closer to being balanced IMO. Malveaux who has a huge amount of experienced said they are referenced level neutral. I can see what he means on good setups. I don't class them as neutral myself but they are close IMO.

I don't have lot of highfi exp but I know d7100 isn't worth $999. At most $300 imho.

I don't think many headphones are worth 999. Here in the UK the pricing is different, the D7100 are a similar price to the Shure 1540, W1000x and some others. I don't think they sound as good as Hifi open backs like the HD650, LCD2, HD800 but they are certainly Hifi closed backs with a bit of a kick to them I think.

I've Grado RS1, Senn HD650, Beyer COP , Shure e5c, Etymotics 4rp and none sound as good on iPhone 4S than D7100. I'd even say the d7100 is also better than all my headphones on my iBasso DX100.

Horses for courses but to compare HD650 to D7100 is comparing chalk and cheese. Both designed for totally different type of amps and one is a sleepy headphone while the other is a party bopper.

HD650 is a time to chille
D7100 is time to jive.

I have a weird feeling when wearing the D600s that the sound is coming from behind me. Even the barbarshop demo on youtube was always coming from behind me.
I swapped the cables around and wear them back to front. Still comfortable, but the sound has been put in front of me now. Must be the speaker placement or something. Now they sound like I expect them to sound!

For me all headphones have this issue. Where ever I can I use a high-quality crossfeed algorithm. If you have an iOS device try CanOpener, best crossfeed I've heard. I'm surprised crossfeed is not promoted more heavily, considering it's closer to how the music is meant to be heard - you'd think Neil Young would have integrated it right into the Pono

As long as they're fun that's all that matters which is why I bought my TH900s and D600s.

All I am trying is to save you guys money on d7100 and look for something else at that price.

But is the d7100 a legitimate upgrade from the d600? I've had a lot of comfort issues and sound sig issues in the past, and I really love the d600, if the 7100 is similar enough in sig, but hifier...I'd probably be willing to buy it when it's much cheaper ($350?)
