New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

Is the T5p 2nd Gen good enough to serve in a home listening system and for travel use? I'm currently looking at beyerdynamic Amiron Home for home use and beyerdynamic Xelento for travel use. If the T5p 2nd Gen is as good as the Amiron Home and Xelento, then it would save me a lot of cash, but ultimate sound quality is a higher priority for me.

The T5p.2's are an excellent headphone, but they are a little hot treble wise. The mids are Amazing! The bass could be best described as sufficient as long as your not into hip/hop, EDM, etc. Of course everybody hears differently. I have seen people write that they find the bass from these very strong, so I guess it depends.
As a reference, my favourite headphone is the Grado GH2's and I am blown away with my new Focal Elex's, if that helps. I know context is everything when you read opinions.

If you want to fit it in your backpack, the travel case that comes with it is a bit unwieldy so you will need to get a more compact one, which is what I did to bring my T1 back and forth from home to office and overseas travel.

How practical are they for general travel use? I usually use IEMs for travel but the T5p 2nd Gen are on my radar if they work as well as the Amiron Home and Xelento so I would only need one headphone for both home and travel use.

They'll easily fit into a standard sized back pack. I don't use my T5P as a travel use headphone but I do use my Amiron Home Wireless back and forth between my workplace and home and never really had any issues. I ended up just throwing them into the nylon carrying back that came with my 990 and throw them into my backpack whenever i'm commuting. The only downside of using the T5P as a travel headphone is you run the risk of denting the metal plates that are glued onto the plastic ear cups. Some people also find it to be a little bulky as a portable option.

Yeah, I said that to myself about saving me a lot of cash and guess what? I indulged myself in and my wallet hates me. The T5p is an excellent headphone, this one has a lot of clarity, treble is excellent too without any fatigue nor sibilance. Bass is balanced, not overwhelming nor onderwhelming.

Also kudos to what has been said. I own the T1 2nd gen and DT1990, and just grabbed a T5p with no regret. Needless to say, I am a Beyer fan boy. I have tried many different headphones and so far Beyer house sound sticks with me the most. It's a little weird that I now have almost a whole Beyer lineup in my home.

I think I can say it applies to me too. The Beyer headphones are so simple and yet so slick and elegant and very comfortable too which is very important. Beyer sure knows how to headphone. And why is it weird? As long as you enjoy them, that's the most important.

Exactly. I am sure the T1 and T5p will be relevant in many years to come. Regardless, I am already looking forward to their next headphones and what they will do though I have burnt my wallets with 3 Beyer in the past 1.5 years :relaxed:

I wanted the T1.2 but am afraid because of the 600ohm, it's probably a bit too much to handle for portable devices. I use my Beyers literally for everything, even my good old mp3 player which is the Samsung YP U3 ^^ Amiron Home is surprisingly easy to drive on that! I wish Beyer would release Amiron Home Copper version just like they did to the Wireless version but I won't say no to a new one. I always knew there are very good headphones but needed an underrated name to help me in the right direction. All I knew were the overrated brands which has never interested me one bit. My wallets hates me, 5 Beyers in literally 3 months...

Yeah the T1.2 will require a bit of proper DAC/Amping to sound its best, hence extra investment costs. I bit my lips to buy a $600 IFI iDSD BL because I want to be able to drive high-impedance headphone properly on-the-go, which you might consider since portable use also seems to be your priority. That thing is a beast of a portable amp and it drives T1.2 with plenty of headroom. I am using it for all of my cans right now.

Yeah, if I would get the T1.2, I would need a powerfull portable dac/amping. For desktop I have an amp so no problem. What about the Nan IFI iDSD BL? There is one thing I fear of portable dac/amps: the battery will degrade over years and then at one point, it will be rendered useless. Hence why I don't like truely wireless stereo. Beyer made a very good choice to make the Amiron Wireless wired too and to keep the audio same quality unlike Sony WH XM3. Use the wire and the sound is whole lot worse than crows screaming. Unfortunaly I'm not kidding about it, I actually tried it out in a store. I'll go with the flow if I'll get the T1.2 and probably either the Nano IFI or BTR5. You don't need a very expensive audio system to enjoy the headphones IMHO. I mean, it sounds very good too when I tested my mp3 player.

The portable DAC/AMP I mentioned is the IFI Micro iDSD Black Label, and not the nano one because the latter will not have enough power to drive the T1.2 to good level. Yeah, true about the battery and most are not replaceable so they're designed to be obsolete with lots of usage over the years.
