New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

How do you guys get on with these when out and about, they are fairly large headphones IMO and am unsure as to their suitability to on the go listening.

this is going to be true of any full size headphone. If you’re dedicated you can make it work, but not worth the hassle. I’ve always used these for my at work desk pair and gone the IEM route for being truly “on the go”. The T5ps are definitely great for flying and long train rides etc, proper traveling. If you’re hustling and bustling in a big city metro though, they wouldn’t be my first recommendation

I have the ZX300 and they are a great combo. I used them together just the other day. I used a 4.4mm balanced cable and then went into the EQ. I went 2 plus on the bass, 2 plus on the midrange and 2 minus on the treble. It sounded great.

Thanks i think i will buy it and if not a good match i will return it. Yes have read that the bass maybe on the lean side compered to the sony z7. The z7 may have a good bass and soundstage but i think it is lacking some sparkle and air which the t5p will have i hope. For movies i and some music genre the z7 is perfekt.

I did own the Z7's, but sold them on. The T5p.2's are a whole world of difference in clarity. They are brighter, but Very clear.

Yeah the z7 is maybe too dark some times. But one thing i dont like is sibilant or fatigue sound hope the t5p is not like other beyer cans? And how would you rate comfort compared to z7 which is some of the most comfy cans i have.

I have the T5p for some weeks, two I think and I love it very much! The bass is indeed on the lean side but that's no problem as I'm not a basshead. And if I want bass, I'll pick up my Amiron Home/Wireless and or Meze 99 Classics. The highs of the T5p are very clear and yet not spikes-to-brain at all, zero sibilance. I'm surprised to be honest. My DT880 is collecting dust and DT770 is near my desktop pc as the hiss is not strong fortunately and the comfort is excellent on all the cans I have. And to answer your question: there is no fatigue or sibilant and I'm very sibilant-sensitive. I would rate the comfort 100/10.

And oh, if you don't like the pleather earpads of the T50p, you can buy earpads covers from Greekia on Amazon. Let me know if you want the link to them.

I don't find them sibilant, but I do find them a little bright. I plan ahead for using them:
1) EQ them with my DAP
2) EQ them in system (DAP to DAC to multiple amps)
3) Use them with my balanced and somewhat tubey sounding LCX amp

I really like and respect these headphones, however these would never be my only headphones.

I find them VERY comfortable!

That's kind of interesting, when I was comparing my T5P against my Amiron Home & Wireless I found that the T5P had much more bass over the Amirons including sub bass. I found the Amiron series to be pretty light on bass compared to the T5P, 1990, & 1770.

Indeed interesting. I guess it's our ears that are different. Do you have different earpads on your T5p?
You have a cool collection of Beyerdynamic btw.

For sure but I think having different hearing and different tastes is what makes being an audiophile interesting. At the moment i'm keeping all of the headphones and pads to their stock configuration. Thanks for the compliment, i'm not exactly sure what it is about Beyerdynamics but I just love them and i'm not done quite yet. Out of curiosity Is your T5P a gen one or gen two? I do remember hearing/reading the gen one T5P lacked bass compared to the gen two. I have a set of gen ones that I recently traded my Hifiman XX for that i'm getting cable modded at the moment. When I get them back i'm probably going to compare them against the gen two's.

Exactly. In the end of the day, it doesn't matter the price, wether expensive or not, everyone got their own tastes and preferences. I like to keep my stuff to their stock configurations, I use earpads covers to extend the comfort and to make the bass not leak on the Amiron Wireless. And also to protect them too. My T5p is a 2nd gen, I never had gen1 so can't tell. But as for me, the T5p has bright treble and yet not fatigue at all. Same here, I love them too and probably am not finished too. I would love it to get the DT1770 because closed back but not sure to get it or not. Just sibilance-sensitive here.

Anyone using hi end amps/dac?

Depends on how you define the term "high end".:-)

My system is Sony DAP to SMSL SU-8 to several amps, depending on mood. I find the Cavalli LCX good with these 'phones. It softens the sharp edges in balanced mode.

I was taking a look at the 177X as a portable option to compliment the Amiron Wireless. They're suppose to be a less sibilant and have less bass bloat compared to the 1770. I personally enjoy the 1770 as is but the 177X may be an alternative option for you. But considering your location it might be not worth it with the customs fees you'll probably have to pay if you order it through Drop. Alternatively I noticed that the 177X uses the same tuning foam that the Amiron Wireless uses under the ear pads. If you can find a pair of 1770's you can demo it might be worth it to pop out the tuning foam from your Amiron Wireless and try swapping the tuning foam to see if it manages the sibilance better. Just a thought

I use the DT1770 at work and the T5p gen2 and somehow I haven't compared them next to each other but I know that in my setup neither have sibilance for my ears.

True, the fees are quite a hassle if higher than €150. I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, that bothers me too as I have the 770 and no sibilance for my ears. So I thought it could be nice upgrade and also to add it to my collection.
