New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

Is there an unequivocal consensus in terms of whether or not the T5P benefits from being run through a balanced amp/dac? I am just curious if there's any notable difference in terms of detail retrieval, resolution, tonality etc?

I am not sure the balanced line does anything special to the sound. I think it is more about matching the amp. Having said that, I Love these headphones out of my Cavalli LCX via XLR. And I feed the amp with XLR's from my SMSL SU-8. Is a balanced feed in necessary? I am not sure, but it is more convenient for me on my set-up.

I think my soft, fuzzy LCX is a perfect match to smooth the sharp edges of the T5p.2's.

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong thread to post this in but I couldn't find a populated thread or an active thread regarding the T5P gen 1. I was searching high and low for members of head fi who could mod my gen 1 T5P's. I've already tried reaching out to several members who provided the service a couple of years ago but I haven't heard back from any of them. If anyone knows someone who can do it I would greatly appreciate it if you could point me in their direction. Thanks

I doubt I can help you but what mod are you referring to?

:weary: forgot to mention the mod. I'm hoping to find someone who could perform the detachable cable mod. Doesn't matter if its 3.5mm or xlr out

I did see their site during one of my searches. I was hoping for something more local but at this point i'll take whatever I can. I honestly appreciate the help :v:~cheers
Hi Minty1,
I would second SteveOliver's recommendation for CustomCans in the UK.
I have used them on numerous occasions for headphone cables. Great quality & Great service = Great Company !

There are some expensive (£87-27 ?+VAT) real leather pads available from Beyerdynamic for the T5P phones. How long have you used the originals for? I did not like them a whole lot to begin with but the synthetic treated "leather" has softened with use and the memory foam has now shaped itself to my head. They are much more comfortable than when new.

BTW I can recommend the Chord Hugo 2 with the T5P-2 phones but with a strong proviso. This combo is for folks like me who like their sound quite far towards the cool and precise end of the spectrum. If you like your sound warm/rich - look elsewhere. It is definitely a step up on the Beyerdynamic Impacto DAP but given the price differential, I would have been desperately disappointed if it had not been. At the price of the Chord Hugo 2, you might have thought they would have included some Apple cables but no. You also need to buy the iOS camera adapter to use with an iPad/iPhone/iPod.

Don't you think cool and precise is the signature of these 'phones? I can't imagine these headphones ever being warm and rich. To me, they are almost clinical. I use them with different amps, but I like that the LCX can smooth the edges a bit. But I don't think it makes them warm and/or rich.

I bought the T5P-2 because they were cool and precise but the Hugo 2 brings that out more than the Impacto DAP does but with smoother edges. I can imagine them sounding much warmer, if that is what the user wanted, with a valve/tube DAC e.g. if you have very deep pockets, the Audio Research DAC-9.

Hello got my t5p Gen.2 today. I like the sound signature. However I'm looking for some replacement pads which dosent change the stock sound to much. Any experiences so far?
I had a similar issue and have since been through a number of pads. Here's my thoughts:

1. DT1770 velour pads. These fit perfectly, are immensely comfortable, but they modify the sound signature removing some of the sub-bass while making the soundstage slightly larger. This might be more appealing for some, but I found it took away some of the body of the T5p.
2. Custom Pro - these retain the SQ of the original pads, but somehow in a less precise way. They're also quite cheap in their feel, while being slightly larger and thus more comfortable.
3. I have ordered the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin out of curiosity. I am anticipating they may muddy things a bit too much.
4. Beyer make real leather pads for the T5p, but having asked Beyer about them, they are evidently the same size. More info is here - https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/ohrmuschelsatz-2872.html I would be prepared to pay over 100 Euros for them, but not when they're the same size.
5. In agreement with the chap above, the original pads do actually expand the more you use them. I now find them perfectly comfortable. I would stick with them. The T5p continue to impress me with these pads.

Has anybody any experience with connecting T5p2 to Chord hugo (v1)? I have found Chord hugo with good price and should have it next week. I m also considering alternative more warm source. Would Alo v5 be good (supplementary) alternative?

Thanks for all thoughts.

I've always enjoyed the T5p2 on my Hugo V1, but did not like the Alo CDM at all, just too fuzzy and colored... don't know if the v5 shares that signature though.

I do not have deep pockets, but the LCX is somewhat tube like and does soften the edges. Not a great combo with my Vali 2, IMO. I am not sure a "real" tube amp would do much with such an efficient headphone. I have often thought about an OTL tube amp, but most of my headphones are 32 Ohm and below.

PS: Just got a pair of Fostex TH-610 headphones today (half price on some demo's). Talk about the opposite of the Beyer's!:L3000:

I've burned a lot of money on pads, in the end beyerdynamic headphones really like beyerdynamic pads :) My experience reflect the above though I am fan of the custom pro/mmx-300 pads, they are immensely comfortable.
