New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

Heads up for anyone interested in buying the t5p 2nd gen.I have mine for sale. They are technically the best headphones I have owned, but I just find them a bit too bright for me.They have only had about 20 hours use.

You could try playing a long playlist overnight for a few nights whilst you're thinking about selling them. I did this for all of my recent headphones. I charged up my DAP and just played songs whilst I was sleeping (keeping the DAP/headphones in another room to avoid being disturbed). The hours rack up very quickly. After a while the sound hits the sweet spot. At least for me it did.

However, I understand that some headphones might not sound right to you. Earlier this year I sent back a pair of Sennheiser HD 660 S over-ears, which are very highly rated, as they just didn't sound right to me even after 30 days of use and many hours of burn-in.

Cables are compatible across Amiron Home, T1 Gen 2 and Gen 3 as well as T5(p) Gen 2 and Gen 3, yes. And yes, the T1/T5 cables are of very high quality, I even bought some for my Denon D7200 of old (the D9200 I purchased recently comes with its own short cable)

Add to that list the Aventho Wired on-ears - lovely for wearing when out on walks and massively underrated. This is why I really like Beyerdynamic headphones. They make quality headphones at reasonable prices.

I have that with my HD560S. While the sound is good, it's not a headphone I easily pick depending on my mood.

Will probably give them another try.The first time I put them on I could only stand about an hour. While they aren't sibilant the treble still was too much for me,and the amount of detail fateguing. I had them on last night and managed a couple of hours. The treble was still there, but appeared more manageable.I did wake up with an headache but that was probably down to the bottle of wine consumed while listening to the Beyers.
My other headphones are the sony mdrz7, so the beyers are a totally different sound.

I know what you mean and have experienced that too, the treble is indeed too much in the beginning. I once wanted the Sony MDR-Z7 but I dropped it off the list. There is also a thing we must not forget: our brain to get used to a different sound. If you listen with the Sony for months and suddenly move on to T5p.2, it sound very different and maybe harsh too. It's best to keep swapping between them over some days. Drinking wine won't change the sound tho lol.

I have been giving the t5p's a few more hours and on different setups.I listen mostly to music from my laptop with a dap amp.I have a hrt microstreamer and through this the t5s sound good but bright.Through my ifi idsd nano black the sound is less bright/better for me.The best sound to my ears at least up to now are on my Cowon plenue j.At least I am giving them a bit more play time to see if I get used to them.

The treble on the T5p (2nd Gen) can be a little too strident at times; thankfully, with a tube amplifier, the highs are reined in a little. If you do decide to keep the Beyerdynamic, you should consider investing in a tube amplifier.

Nevertheless, it still retains a punchy, engaging sound that's quite decent for dance music. The treble needs to be tamed (a little) to bring its qualities to the fore, IMO.

My T5P-2 phones seemed to take forever to burn in and I also felt the upper end was a tad too bright, even though I like bright/cold sound (I use ATC speakers driven by Krell amps in both UK and France and they are at the far cool end of the sound spectrum). I invested in various Amarra products so that I could apply a correction curve but now some 18 months after buying my T5P-2 phones, I often don't bother firing the buggy Amarra products up, as the phones have become considerably more mellow with use. In any case Amarra SQ+ doesn't work at all with Big Sur and there is no release date for the required update. I don't really miss it that much.

On the subject of cables, another advantage of the OEM Beyerdynamic supplied 3.5 to 2 x 3.5mm cable is that the headphone end plugs have threaded sleeves, so that they lock into the phone bodies. I have not found any third party cables with this feature. The Custom Cans cable I use when using the Impacto DAP with the T5P-2 phones, have long shank 3.5mm plugs but no threads. I only use the Impacto when travelling, as otherwise I use the noticeably superior Chord Hugo 2, which also has the advantage that you can charge while playing, which is not possible with the Impacto, so on a long flight I end up with the Impacto playing and the spare Impacto battery on charge and a rat's nest of cables.

I am waiting for delivery of a Meenova Lightning to Micro USB chipped cable to be delivered, which hopefully will allow me to bin the Lightning to Camera adapter/dongle so that I can play direct from an iOS device to the Hugo 2. This is in a modest effort to minimise the extent of the rat's nest.

Does anyone know how to teardown (not destroying but safely) the headband? Mine is worn out and need to replace the skin layer by a DIY leather strip.

I would take it to a specialist leather shop and get them to do it. That is what I will do with my T5P-2 phones when the original synthetic leather wears out. In the UK, near where I live, is a shop called "Clever with Leather" in Brighton, Sussex. He loves difficult and special tasks in contrast to his every day jobs of replacing zips on leather jackets etc. He made a beautiful matching leather grab handle, with bronze fittings, on the top cover of my Billingham Leica M camera bag. When the headband cover on my T5P phones wears out, I will get him to make a suede cover over the damaged original covering, with the stitching seam on the top and plain leather trim pieces on each end.

I was able to tear this thing down today! To give you a hint, never buy this again! Look at its material, they simply use marker tape cheaper than any of my own I used during my toilet painting last week!
And double sided adhisive runs over the hinge between the metal and foam. Cheap made sponge and easy worn out plastic band to hold the rail, has been ripped off!
I bought some offcut leather and special glue, and hopefully easy to mod to be an exclusive made!

To tear it down you need to remove the sewed ribbon with logo on both side, then remove any crap glue you can see the exposed pastic lock, you need to unlock them (4 lock feet but you only need to unlock on one side, the other side is a fake lock), as soon as both lock are loose you need to hold a stick to stab into the other side of bottom hole and the whole lock will pop out. The lock itself is easliy broken as well but it will be okay since they are cheap.

You will see they are really terrible poor pastic instead of any metal inside of the lock. The cost will definitly under $5 including the labor. And they are selling it £115 or something.

Thanks for posting. Pretty shocking really.
