Sennheiser HD800's. They rival them nicely!
Thanks for your input @kelly200269, that tallies with what I've read and also my reason for trying them, as you say the 1990 is a great all rounder, but just sometimes they can be a touch too fast/bright for jazz and classical, especially late at night when I would rather listen with cans that are a touch dialled back, so I'm hoping the two will compliment each other.I use both, and the 1990's and 1.2 are very different in their sonic signatures.
Simplistically, the mids are much more pronounced with the 1.2's, and compared to the 1.2's, the 1990's mids sound slightly recessed. That's the major difference.
I would also say that the lower-registers/bass is a little more ample and pronounced with the 1990's. With the 1.2's the bass is still there, but it has less of a 'slam' than when listening to the 1990's.
I would say that the upper-registers/treble sound very similar, although the imaging is slightly better with the 1.2's.
I have always said that the 1990's are the best overall 'go to' pair of cans I own. They do well with all genres. However, I think the 1990's are unbeatable with rock & pop, where the slightly 'V' shaped presentation works very well.
The T1.2's I have always said are a bit like Marmite - you either love 'em, or you hate 'em. However, given the 'right' material and a decent chain in-front of them, they excel with jazz and blues, where they are sublime IMO.

I'm the flip side of that coin, with the T1.2, hopefully in my system they'll be sublime with Vocals, Folk, Classical, Jazz too.@Scutey @kelly200269
Thanks for your impressions of 1990 and T1.2.
So I am not the only one thinking that having both might be a good idea.
T1.2 to me is sublime for Vocals, Folk, Blues, Jazz. I prefer it to Utopia or HD800(s).
I don't think that one set of cans can do everything, and I too think that the T1.2 and 1990's compliment each other perfectly.@Scutey @kelly200269

Bought mine a month ago, the serial number is 379XXAnyone knows whats the latest serial number for the T1.2s? My pair haven't arrived yet, so I dunno mine. Is there any difference between newer and older ones? I know Audeze changes stuff all the time, not sure about Beyer.
Thank you. I found no reporting about any T1.2 being different from other T1.2s. Serial number probably does not matter, but if anyone is wondering I will also post mine when they arrive. When you're paying $1000 for a pair of headphones it's good to know you're getting the latest revision for sureBought mine a month ago, the serial number is 379XX

Weird, my serial is 311XX. Also, are the piercing highs normal with non-ideal amps? I know warm / high-impedance (output) amps can help, but I'm talking about 5-7 dB here. After EQ they still sound bright (the Amirons / LCD2s sound muffled in comparison), so it's not me wanting to turn these into dark cans. At the moment I'm using the iFi micro iDSD BL. Would buying the A20 make a difference? There's no proper way to buy a Bottlehead Crack here in Europe and HP8 / Elise is too expensive.
I have 14 days to return, but I'm in love with everything other than the highs, so it'd be great if that was solvable with a matching amp.
