I want to like them but they are just brutal at HF end. Such a shame.

It makes a huge difference. It would be helpful if you listed what amp you tested them with.
It is in my signature mate...

Ok, you could have said :)

Ever tried them with an OTL amp? I like them out of a good solid state, but my favoured pairing is with an OTL amp.

Is there anybody who uses T1 and DT1990?
I love and own the T1.2.
I listenened to DT 1990 and liked it too, but I had it not on my amp.
Too my ears T1.2 have a better resolution but the DT1990 more slam.
Now I wonder if the DT 1990 might be the better choice for rock and metal music than the T1.2.
What is your experience is DT1990 a good complement or is it too similar to T1.2?

Well I can't give you a direct comparison with the T1.2, yet, I have some on order, hopefully arriving Tuesday, but I do own the DT 1990, personally I find the 1990 to be very good with rock and metal, they have plenty of slam, the bass, especially with the B pads hits deep, tight and very hard, with lots of detail, highs extend well too which I find gives them the agility to handle, fast, aggressive music, the mids are slightly recessed but have lots of detail, imaging and resolution are also very good too, I'm buying the T1.2 as a compliment to the 1990, for a slightly darker, slightly more laid back sound for jazz and classical, but for rock and metal I now only use my 1990's.

I'm seriously tempted by the T1,2, my go to cans for the last year have been the DT 1990, has anybody compared the T1.2 to the 1990's ?, also if I do take the plunge they will be used exclusively with my Feliks Elise tube amp.
I use both, and the 1990's and 1.2 are very different in their sonic signatures.
Simplistically, the mids are much more pronounced with the 1.2's, and compared to the 1.2's, the 1990's mids sound slightly recessed. That's the major difference.
I would also say that the lower-registers/bass is a little more ample and pronounced with the 1990's. With the 1.2's the bass is still there, but it has less of a 'slam' than when listening to the 1990's.
I would say that the upper-registers/treble sound very similar, although the imaging is slightly better with the 1.2's.
I have always said that the 1990's are the best overall 'go to' pair of cans I own. They do well with all genres. However, I think the 1990's are unbeatable with rock & pop, where the slightly 'V' shaped presentation works very well.
The T1.2's I have always said are a bit like Marmite - you either love 'em, or you hate 'em. However, given the 'right' material and a decent chain in-front of them, they excel with jazz and blues, where they are sublime IMO.

I think the T1 (T5) is Beyerdynamic’s best offering for all genre of music. It’s the culmination of a great deal of research.

I don’t know if there is anything out there that rivals the authentic reproduction.
Sennheiser HD800's. They rival them nicely!

I think you've 'hit the nail on the head'!
IMO, 1990's excel with rock and pop music, whilst the T1.2's are ideally suited to jazz, blues and classical.
They do compliment each other very well, although if I had to pick just one pair of cans for overall use, it would have to be the 1990's. They are great all-rounders. The T1.2's aren't, IMO.
