New Audio Technica ATH-M50x with Removable Cable

As a proud M50X user (it's still one of my go-to headphones for fun, engaging, and portable sound)...I was incredibly surprised when I started my review of Samson's latest studio flagship -the Z55.  I'll be damned if I didn't say something about these.  First impressions - a punchy, well-extended bass that most M50X users will absolutely love, but with a smoother midrange and slightly relaxed treble.  Vocals are a joy.  Sound stage is a little smaller though.  It's like an even more likeable M50x that fixes common gripes that people have with the headphone.

It's almost like Samson wanted to take on Audio-Technica in its own backyard.  And man...man...is this one interesting comparison.  Hope to have the review up soon.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that first impressions might change.  But still!

Hum.... M50x price is super higu in europe right now.... 159\169 on all amazons and thomann... Any reason for this?

If nothing else, we can be sure that there is a reason.

I would guess some supply issue on AT's part, and then they have to crank up the price as a result, forcing retailers to raise theirs.  Or it's simply to squeeze more money out of buyers.

I've had these for awhile now. Owned many phones of varying prices, and for once, no intention of getting rid of these. Cheap, transportable, tough, and good isolation.. And I plug these into a iPhone as well. I actually don't see the point in upgrading anymore:) dead happy.

I just reveived the Koss IL 100W.I purchased them on eBay. The box was sealed, never opened. There is a price sticker on the bottom of the box,$49.95. Looks like someone's NOS. I purchased them for $10.86, wth free shipping. I only own two sets of ear buds, JVC that I bought at Walmart as something that I could afford to lose, sound pretty good, so so as far as comfort and a pair I got from Lenovo with my Yoga Tab 3 Pro, angled tips. Cannot get them to fit. These Koss are very comfortable and sound wonderful right out of the box. Just listening to TV with them just now, Amazon original program called "Bosch". Highly recommend the show. These are the first in ear phones that I like. I have been waiting for Fender to start selling their IEM's. I want to get the 99.00 set. Any suggestions, recommendations on that? Thanks, engine

Can anyone recommend a replacement pad? I've had mine for a long while now and the pads are starting to peel and would like to get something more comfortable.

I went with the Massdrop velour pads, but saw many complaints about it on the discussion page so  I sent in a support ticket to see if I can cancel my order.

Thanks guys!

I also ordered the massdrop ones, but i will give them a shot. The brainwavz hm5 pads are the other most suggested for the m50x, but they are a bit bigger, and there is some slight loss in SQ due to the larger size.

Yea I ordered the burgundy one for my black M50x because I think it would look really good because of the accent.

The reason I'm thinking of canceling the order is because

1. People are saying the bass suffers a lot
2. It's really uncomfortable for glasses wearers (not sure if that's true)
3. Apparently there are better alternatives for the price
4. The estimated shipping time is not until the end of the month, which is a pretty long wait

If I'm not able to cancel, no big deal, I can see how I like it and if I don't I can just order a different one. Would prefer if I could cancel though, but support isn't going to be back until Monday.

I got my Sound Professionals velour pads from Massdrop two days ago. I've used them a little so far, but I liked them. My phones got much more comfortable. With the original pads, ears would went warm and sweaty after less than an hour. With the velour pads, I feel I can wear them for hours, but also I don't wear glasses, so this is not an issue for me. I was not aware of the many complaints on Massdrop's comments, but saw some people complaining about glasses or loss of bass. As for me, I don't listen to bass-heavy music.

Velour pads tend to reduce upper mids and treble response. Only if the pads are deeper or bigger in diameter should the bass response suffer. Brainwavz makes a hybrid pad of velour and pleather where the surface that touches your head is velour so you don't sweat and the rest is pleather so as not to effect your high end response.

I'm thinking of picking up that hybrid pad because it seems to be perfect, however I haven't seen any reviews.

The pads are only $20 so I might as well just keep them if I don't like and get the Brainwavz hybrid pad, I really like the look of the burgendy one.
Someone made a video of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-pTB2t4nY

Thanks guys! I'll go ahead and keep my order with Massdrop and maybe pick up the hybrid pad if I want to try something else.

I have both Sound Professionals velour pads and Brainwavz hybrid.
SP velour didn't change sound much at all. Hybrid made ATH-M50 very bright sounding with very little bass.
Hybrid ended up on my modded T50RP(v2). Velour still used on ATH-M50.
