Slightly better... I knew it all along. Btw, the ATH-M50X is cheaper than the ATH-M50 in my country, even when both are at their original prices
This FiiO/Oyaide HD598 cable Mad Max mentioned isn't a bad idea, but it still doesn't help if you want to connect a 6-inch cable to an iPod shuffle clipped to your collar or an inline mic cable for the Xbox One or PS4, like the Vmoda Boompro. This nice FiiO/Oyaide HD598 cable is also $65 and basically the same thing as the cables that already came with the headphones. Audio Technica will be selling replacement cables as well, starting in May, unless their parts department was lying to me.
Also, just a side note, you don't have to hot glue the adapter in the socket. It works fine if you just plug it in and then you can also still use the cables that came with the headphones minus the locking functionality. Because I have plenty of 3.5 mm cables, and want the 2.5mm jack on the headphones to last as long as possible, I hot glued the adapter so it could be removed/replaced later, if necessary, but would generally remain in the headphones as a permanent part. If the adapter wears out, a quick twist with a pair of pliers will be all it takes to remove it. I also suspect that if I trimmed the excess hot glue, most people could not tell it is not like this from the factory. It looks very clean other than the touch of glue.
anyone else here think vocals lack a touch of body and can sound nasal sometimes? I think the bass is great, right amount of punch and solid in upper bass, and more fluid down low, good texture. But above the bass they get a little thin especially on some poor rock tracks it gets annoying sometimes. I heard this X is warmer compared to original M50 but I think it is slightly tilted towards analytical. My K267 Tiesto in comparison seems to have a more polite sound with only a bit of sub bass lift, vocals sound more natural with more body, treble is similar, slightly softer.
Overall it feels like to me that M50X gains its stage by slight recess from after bass to female vocals? they sound W shaped to me. I love it for mobile use, it is very exciting and engaging but for longer periods infront of the computer the sound of the K267 with its sound 2 rows further back sounds somewhat more sophisticated to my ears.
