On October 15, Audio-Technica introduced two new portable headphones: the ES10 and the WS70.

First up, the new ATH-ES10 is now the range-topper in the Earsuit line of portable headphones. (The limited edition woody, the ESW10JPN, is now discontinued.) The headphone boasts a rather large 53mm transducer, apparently based on the designs used in their ART Monitor (A series) full-size headphones. It also utilizes a very handsome titanium housing. The ES10 will be available in Japan starting on November 13 for a retail price of ¥47250 (~$522.68).

The second portable announced is the ATH-WS70, which is Audio-Technica's first portable headphone entry in their popular "Solid Bass" line. The WS70's sleek aluminum housing contains a second air chamber for increased bass response. The new "Solid Bass" headphone will be available in Japan on December 11, retailing for ¥12600 (~$139.38).

Just before I want to pull the trigger on ESW9... ES10 really looks tempting.

The ES10 looks nice, too expensive for me though.

WS70 look ok, not really diggin' that headband adjustment area. Curious how it sounds, might pick up a pair. Looking forward to reviews and impressions in December.

It looks like the ATH-ESW10JPN and the ATH-A900Ti made love together. And their baby inherited the best of it's parents' strengths. It truly looks stunning. It is that I don't need it, but it sure is tempting. With the new ATH-W1000X and this beauty, I can only dream what will be released when Audio-Technica turns 50 next year...

Jeez I finally pull the trigger on the ESW10's and AT pulls these out? I bet the sound comparisons will be quite interesting between the 2 10's

Do these people think there is no limit to the number of headphones we will buy?

For over $500? They won't sell many at all in this economy. A portable that size that doesn't have single sided cable is a very high price. $250 if that I would think.

ESW9s look way more sophisticated and up-market than those new ES10s. I mean they may well be sturdy as ever and built like a tank, but without the woodiness they've lost the suave gaudiness that a premium asking price provided you with the ESW9/10s.

WS70s on the other hand simply look atrocious. Remind me vaguely of the K340s more than anything else.

Sorry I don't mean to crap on this thread, but when I initially glanced at the ES10, the word "skullcandy" came to mind immediately. Don't get me wrong, I love audio technica stuff.

Actually the longer I look at it, the more better looking it seems to become

I think the render looks much better than the actual photo of the ES10. There's something about the brushed finish that seems underdeveloped to me. I guess I wish it was more satiny.

Anyways, looks shmooks. Can't wait to read how they sound so I can give them a vicarious listen!
