Oups!
Worthy of "the idiot of the day"!
Apologies for posts concerning the order of tracks. In fact, understanding nothing after editing tracks with mp3tag, I switched the interface of the LP5Pro in English ... And then everything becomes clear! translations in French are so bad that I had set the random play on (suffle). In French it is translated as "marche (running normal)" ... One less problem!

Has anyone heard both Calyx M and L5 Pro? Wondering where they stand relative to one another in terms of neutrality/warmth.

thanks!
in comments he says l5pro is "thinner and more neutral, more clinical" than calyx m and dx90... guess i'm headed in wrong direction, though L5P doesn't really match my notions of 'thin/neutral/clinical"- all this relativistic comparing gets so confusing lol.

Does this player support Apple formats (m4a and ALAC)?

ALAC yes - aac is a no-go at the moment.

People can perceive sound differently due to different music/IEMs they use. I honestly agree with you that L5P does not sound thin or clinical.

Hmm.. wait for the L3 or get the L5. I have a Westone ES60 CIEM on order. I know the balanced out is in fashion, but which will sound better L5 SE -> ES60 or L3 balanced -> ES60. My Pono balanced out -> XBA-Z5 definitely sounds better than SE.

Hopefully I will be able to reply to this soon, so just wait.

I would say if you plan to use some portable/easy-to-drive headphones, you will definitely need the extra power on L5 Pro.

If you plan to use it IEM only, L3 should be your best bet, plus you can use balanced output with your ES60 in the future.

On the side note, the pricing on L3 now is great.
