after using them for a little My opinion is that for me its a fun headphone too listen too, Its comfy, its light, the design is great,but the dark veil keeps if from being something truly great. from my time with the tma1 studios I can tell in terms of sound it will turn out too be a love or hate thing, and I don't know were I am. But from the listening time I had with the originals I think that if you like the on ear tma1s you will like these.

In a few words, what are the main differences when compared to the ATH-M50's? That'd help me understand it because we both have the M50's too. 
 
How does the TMA-1 Studio compare in:
  1. Bass Impact?
  2. Bass Clarity?
  3. Treble Clarity/Quality?
  4. Midrange Quality?
  5. Build Quality?
  6. Distortion?
  7. "Drive-ability"?
 
Just a sentence for each is enough - thanks!

bass impact: tma1 studio wins, it has really good bass impact.
bass clarity: tma1 is smoother, the m50 has more detail but sometimes it seems like the tma1s go deeper than the m50s.
treble/mids: m50s win. the tma1 sounds smoother but the m50s are much cleaner, thats were the veil keeps the tma1s from being great
build quality: both feel really solid, I will give the tma1s the edge because I like the matte rubber finish alot. 
distortion: I have not herd any on both \
"drive-abillity" : both seem about the same.
In the end, when I get my email working again I will write aiaiai and see if they can do anything about the veil. Until I or someone else can get there response if they plan too change anything or if there anything we can do about it. but until then I would say wait unless you like the original tma1s

I just bought a pair of TMA-1 Studio cans yesterday.
 
They were very comfy using the rubber ear pads. The included leather ones were OK too, my ears just sweat a little more with them.
 
It's all light weight with a pretty nice locking mechanism for the cable instead of a threaded end.
 
They ended up going back to Best Buy the same day. I listen to mostly R&B/Hip-hop and these phone don't hold up well in comparison to my M50s or Pro 700MK2ANV. They actually sound "small" in comparison. Bass impact is weak, and the overall sound just didn't scale well even with bumping the gain up to +12dB on my amp. Yuck, I just had to return them the same day. I'll give it a 10 on the design and feel, but failing grades on just about everything else.
 
These headphones are for a specific purpose other than listening to R&B/Hip hop. I passed.

Apparently they change quite a bit with burn-in, surely you could have tried burning them in more within the time-frame of the return window?

it might be because yours did not have time too burn in, so the bass impact was not there yet, and bumping the gain up on a amp would probably sound worse because they don't take really anything too drive them but I don't really listen too hip hop/rap music so I would not really know if after burning them in for a week they would be good for it.

Very doubtful. I haven't had to burn in any headphones I've had. The TMA-1 Studio's just sound too weak for the price. The FR curve is very indicative of how they sound. Spot on I would say.

I've had to burn in my M50's for about 80 hours for them to settle into something normal.
 
When I fist got them, the treble actually hurt my ears, as it was too sharp, and the bass felt 'loose' and weak. As I burned them in over a few nights, the treble calmed down a bit, and smoothened out, and the Bass also settled into a good fit with the rest of the sound, and felt more 'tight'.
 
I believe in burn-in, so I will burn in my Studio while I decide on a few songs to A/B compare them to my M50's with.
