NEW 2015 - HIFIMAN HE400S

These are looking very interesting!
Right now I have a Fidelio X1 which I do like but I'm giving it away (family), so I'm looking for something new.
An X2, HD650 or ATH-R70x all come to mind but these 400s looks mighty interesting.
In 1.5 months I'll probably need those. :) (and hope it will be available by then)

Hopefully Fang finalizes the He-400s but makes sure everything is super ready in a timely manner. At their suspected price they certainly are very competitive with other headphones. Hopefully they will be out when you are looking to get new headphones

I'm really hoping that they don't change the tunning it was great when at the show.

Heard these at the T.H.E. Show and quite honestly wasn't all that impressed by them.

I thought that the 400i right next to them sounded significantly better across the board.

YMMV, but they aren't for me.

Better bass slam on the he400i, better attack? More fun?

The 400S sounded somewhat muffed and dull and lacking in bass quality and quantity when directly compared to the 400i.

For $300, the 400S are decent, but an extra $200 buys you a much better headphone with the 400i.

I guess the best way I could sum up the 400S overall SQ is that, to me, the 400S sounded more like it was using an average-quality dynamic driver instead of the high quality planar-magnetic driver that the 400i uses.

It has less bass than the 400i? I'm pretty disappointed, I thought the S was targeted for bassheads who preferred the old sound signature of the 400.

That was surprising, and disappointing. I thought this is targeted to V-shaped more bass audiences..
