If there is no big difference between K242HD and ATH-M50 then I would easily go for the Ath-m50 for the looks.

Would the Asus Xonar DG give me the best of sound of my ATH-M50?

The Asus Xonar DG would give the best sound for it's price ($14-$24).
The Asus Xonar DG is usually better then what comes built into a motherboard.
I like recommending the Xonar DG (I own two).

Would I get the best of sound of my pair of ATH-M50?

The Fiio E10 USB-DAC-Headphone amp. might improve it a little better then the DG, but it's $80.
So the DG is the best sound, for the price.

Is the AKG K242HD better than Audio technica ath-m50?

The M50 may be slightly better in some respects, but I prefer the sound signature of the K240. The K240 focuses on warm midrange, with punchy bass. It's a "fun" sound signature. The M50 has unremarkable mids and highs, with a slighly bloated bass that sometimes overwhelms the mids.

The AKG is more comfortable than the M50, which is something many people underestimate.
