i want to amp up my grado 325I, to see if i can get a slight improvement.
i mostly listen to death metal, classic rock and other guitar based music. so rock and metal
 
it doesnt have to have a dac but if it does its a plus.
 
i want to spend about 100-250 dollars, and it can be used gear.
 
my ideas so far

meir headsix or any of the moves

Leckerton UHA-4 or UHA-6. They're not as popular as some other portables here, but the UHA-6 in particular is a great portable DAC/amp.

I gave some suggestions for portable, but if you are okay with desktop amps (which you have mentioned in the other thread that you would be using at home) I would highly suggest the Millett Hybrid MiniMax amp that is for sale at the for sale section. I guarantee you will not find anything else at $200 that will make your Grado's sing like the MiniMax. The tube will tame the sometimes piercing high of the 325i by giving you a smooth sounding high and mid. Without being a full tube amp, the solid stage will give the 325i a solid lower end. Also rolling tubes will be cheap with the Millett Hybrids. I also had the 325i + MiniMax combination before I jumped to the RS1i, and I must say it was better than any of the portable amps that I have paired it with.

I heard tubes absolutely make the grados sing over SS. This is hearsay of course. This hybrid amp/dac was $240 shipped and really opened up my DT990's.
