Need advice: noble K10 vs JH roxanne

If you really love bass, I would suggest research more about the MG6Pro as well. Kunlun has a great review about it.

I would caution reading up more on this one.  A handful of respected members have said this is underwhelming, ie - http://www.head-fi.org/products/future-sonics-ear-monitors-with-13mm-mg6pro-dynamic-drivers/reviews/7160

Yeah I remember reading about this in Kunlun's thread, however, his problem imo is fairly unique and that's the thing about reviews and impressions, one person favorite might not be another's cup of tea ( I hate the sound of JH13 and JH16 btw and ordered a K10). The reason why I suggest MG6Pro is because I can relate alot with Kunlun's preference and description, especially his emphasis on a cohesive, organic and non-fatiqe sound. My close friend whose music taste is very similar to mine also owns a MG6Pro and he has very positive words about it, especially how it handles the bass. It contains lots of energy and the "moving" bass gives it a very unique feel. I personally considered between it and the K10 but I love the smoothness of K10's sound and Noble's design so ... Nothing beats demo though but it never hurts to research more.

Bobeau, just wanted to say thanks for your input on this thread.

I've been contemplating a very, very much delayed step up to customs and K10s seem to fit my preferences. HOWEVER, apart from Sørensiim's (who I know isn't afraid to call a dog a dog), Kunlun's and a few other reviews it's hard to find what appears to be balanced take on them - mostly because the Noble thread unfortunately reads like a bunch of over-hyped FotM drivel. There's probably lots of good info in there, but digging through the superfluous has gotten tedious. And, while almost all of Dr Moulton's posts are extremely thoughtful and informative, I find the whole wizard thing to be beyond silly.

Anyway, cheers for this considered approach to comparing these two. You've been very helpful.

Oh that is a good post. No irony. Seriously a good post.

Edit: Glad to see I'm not the only one finding the Noble thread rather silly.

The several owners who have PM'd me in agreement with my take and shared my frustration would certainly disagree with 'fairly unique'. Examples either way are only anecdotal but I've heard from enough owners to know I'm not alone.

Sure thing, just to be clear I'm not trying to say that you lied or blew the problem out of proportion, you hear what you hear and it is a shame that MG6Pro is not your cup of tea. Forums like this exist for that very shame reasons, to share about the experience each of us have. I just find it silly that bobeau used your review as an argument to dismiss the MG6Pro all together.

To be frank, I hate the sound of JH13 or JH16, I prefer JH5 over both of them and my friend who shares similar taste with me think the shame. However, when my other friends as for recommendation, I still suggest giving JHAudio prducts a try since hey, you are making a big investment and demoes are available, why not?

While I love the K10 ( and the Noble 4), I was fairly disapppointed with the 8C, 3, ,5, and 6.

I didn't say to dismiss it altogether, just to look into it.  I've followed shotgunshane for awhile and have found him to be a fairly unbiased reviewer with no allegiance to specific manufacturers nor one w/ a penchant for hyperbole.  Granted, it's toward the end, but he also stated: "Edit: since the original writing of this review, I have received PM's from 4 to 5 other mg6pro owners confirming that they too hear issues similar to what I've described, albeit to differing levels."

Flipping this around, I encourage anyone who finds particularly glowing reviews to look into a user's profile and see their ownership record.  The oft-quoted top reviews for the K10 came from folks who own several Noble or Heir units.  I understand liking a house sound and all, but... personally, it wasn't until VZero and then tupac spoke up that I paid attention to Noble (they both are very experienced w/ a wide pallete of CIEMs and both prefer the K10 to Roxanne).

JH13 or JH16, I prefer JH5

You might like the Roxanne then.  My co-worker who travelled to the SoCal w/ me meet fell for the Roxanne, but also was impressed enough w/ the JH5 to purchase as a stop-gap until he can get the funds together.  He disliked the 13, 16, K10, and N6 (to be fair he had a bias against Noble going into the meet).  His last IEM was a Miracle and he was looking for something fuller and less strident, so it makes sense this was the direction he was heading torward.

Yep, I intend to try the Roxxane and FitEar stuffs once I receive my K10. While the price of audio gears here in Singapore is a bit higher compare to the West, I can never complain about the range of products audio stores here have available for demo :D

"The Noble thread" - I think you are refering to the "Wizard Returns thread, wich seems to have morphed into a "Noble Lounge" where people share a lot of things, from Daps, cables, music prefernces, jokes, and sometimes an occasional insults (made in jest I'm sure)

There is "gold" in that thread to be harvested from time to time, but one must search for it.

If you want a more direct location of information, I'd recommend folks to seek out other Noble threads and reviews etc etc:

I appologize greatly for the dearth of information out there, we have been up and running for six months now, I hope we will soon have more information readily available.

As for the nick "Wizard."  That was bestowed upon me by a head-fi member, back around 2007.   I had been posting photos of CIEMs that I had built as a hobby, and a forum member accused me of working for a commercial CIEM company....

A forum member responded that (and I paraphrase) "FullCirlce has been practiceing his Wizardry and posting his work for a long while now."   So the word "Wizard" stuck....   I use it out of respect for Head Fi, and respect for those members that backed me, and encouraged me to go to the next level....   leaving the safety of a 40 hr a week job.....   to a risky business venture.    Those that said that they would purchase my work and offer support, I suspect came forward and made those purchases....  breatheing life into what is today...   "Noble."

Admitedly, "Wizard" isn't what I would have chosen.....   "Dr. J" would have suited me just fine, as I worked hard to get that degree....   but, life has its twists and turns, and most of them are not planned.

As for Noble being FOTM.....   I hope to be FOTY, and onto FOTD.....   but the only way that is going to happen, is by

1) great customer service
2) great Sound Quality
3) great Build Quaily
4) happy customers
5) an unsurpassed work ethic
6) a lot of luck

Fortunaltey, we have a great team, that loves what they do.

Cheers Dr J.

Thanks for the links to the more distilled information on the Noble line.

I hope you understand, I wasn't disparaging you or suggesting that Noble is a flash in the pan. In fact, my opinion is quite the opposite. I was merely lamenting the way the head-fi community often goes about its discussions, with hyperbole and crowd mentality often drowning out the more thoughtful, tempered voices. The lounge is a great place to hang out, no doubt (I have a few of those forums myself), but it can be a bit off putting for anyone trying to get a handle on what is a substantial investment. The links you posted here are very welcome. Maybe we could ask John to paste them into his first post of the Noble thread.

Let me add that I find your posts to be some of the most useful on this forum for anyone thinking about getting customs for the first time. You needn't apologize for anything.

And as for wizardry ... well I'm much more of a sciencey type - magic's not really my cup o' butter beer. So if it's alright with you, I'll stick with Dr. J. - which sounds way cooler anyway.

(Is it me, or is there a lot of basketball in that last sentence?)

I share your sentiment.

Other than the occasional useful and informative posts by Dr John and Brannan I have to really scroll through many irrelevant content. There are many head fi threads with meaningful participation by many different members but sad to say the Noble thread isn't one of them.

You can always ask, I'm pretty sure the members there will be more than willing to answer/share their thoughts on any inquiries you have. Personally, I find darinf's post about K10 vs various headphones he had is superb and the short discussion i had with other regaring 8C is fun and informative as well.
