Raal SR1a and b have true ribbon transducers. Can someone point out the main differences between the Mysphere and Raal earspeakers?
This is just a corrugated piece of thin aluminum foil, moving inside a magnetic field.
The practical consequence:
This piece of aluminum has an impedance of 0.02 Ohm only (no typo) and cannot directly be connected to any normal headphone- (or speaker-) amp.
Raal has developed some special interfaces and amps to pair with the ribbon transducer.
Mysphere uses normal, albeit very sophisticated, dynamic drivers.
Available in 32 and 120 Ohm, with high sensitivity of 96 dB / mW.
Mysphere can be paired with any existing headphone amp, driven out of a mobil player or even directly from a smartphone, like an iPhone with the little $10 white Lightning to Headphones dongle.
I’m using RME ADI-2 Pro at home, and Qudelix 5K on the go with Mysphere 3.2 (110 Ohm).
For my typical listening level of ca 70 dBA Leq (long term avagage) and up to 100 dB SPL peak I just need a few mW, no challenge for any amp.
