Music Apps, Tips and Tricks for the LG V30, V35, V40, V50 & V60

Neutron takes a utilitarian approach to music. It's a philosophy akin to Linux distros. I've combed through reviews of the app, and can't for the life of me understand the negativity.

I implored Neutron's developer to keep a clear head. The interface offers a wealth of options, but it's not pretty like iOS. Perhaps that's what people want? Can't say, but with Neutron I can set para-EQ by output. So for BT (Galaxy Buds) there's a profile that's different from my M300's. It's a technical app like Resolve, Handbrake, Powershell/terminal, etc. But that's not a bad thing. We need options like these, along with friendlier ones for those that want them.

The v20 is my DAP, since it supports dual channel SBC over BT with custom ROM and has the 9218ESS. I own a G8, just don't use it for music.

The V30 runs Havoc OS with everything turned off. I turn WiFi on if I needs to get a file off the media PC, but it's off most of the time. Just UAPP.

Curious to know if you noticed any downgrade in audio quality or overall stability by moving on to a custom ROM. The updates for the stock firmware are now nonexistent and no phone on the market really does it for me, so updating to an Android 10 ROM would do the trick.

I never used it stock. The UAPP audio driver bypasses the Android audio stack so it doesn't matter anyway.

Be warned that putting a custom ROM on the V30 is a bear, even if you're experienced installing custom ROM. It took me about 4 hours.

T-Mobile V30 (H932) is a bear to root and install custom ROMs on.

Open Market US998 (North America) and H930 (Europe) are very easy.

All other models are fairly easy too (except T-Mobile H932, attempt no landing there).

Edit: Of course easy is relative. It's not One-click root hacks, those days are over. It's also more involved than dedicated Dev phones like Pixel and OnePlus. But not much more.

My LG V35 just updated itself to Android 10 today. Surprisingly, no issues at all with UAPP (at least, not so far...) :)
Wow! Is it the global version? My V30+ is stuck on 8.1...

I'm on AT&T here in the US. It was a total surprise. The only models I'd heard confirmation on Android 10 updates were the LG V40, LG V50, LG G8X, LG G8S, LG G7, LG K50S, LG K40S, LG K50, and LG Q60. The V30 isn't on the list. But then neither is my V35, so who knows?

V35, G7 and newer will all be getting Android 10, since they released with Oreo, and you get two major updates. V30 was released with Nougat, so Android Pie is the end of the road for it. There was some speculation that the rare and wonderful V30S (a V30+ with 6GB RAM) would get Android 10, since it also released with Oreo. But it looks like it won't, being just a variant of V30. Very few own it anyway.

Thanks, as ever, for your wisdom @Dannemand :)

I really like the V35. (I actually 'upgraded' to the V35 from the V40.) It's got that little bit of extra speed over the V30, but it's the same size. For all the rave reviews about the V60, I don't think I'd ever enjoy carrying around a giant, heavy slab like that.

Yes, V35 is great, with its V30 form factor housing better hardware inside. I think the 6GB RAM probably does more than the SD845 CPU to speed it up over V30.

The touchscreen on my T-Mobile V30 H932 wore out, and I had to buy a new phone back in Jan. I was torn between a used, mint condition V30+ and a new V35. I'd looked at G8, but just couldn't convince myself to like it, seems clunky, and screen blander than V30. V35 was still hard to root at the time, and in the end I bought two of those mint V30+ (US998 converted from LS998) for less than the V35 would have cost -- but of course without warranty, so one is a backup for either my wife or myself.

It's been great so far. But if I were to buy now, I would consider V35 even harder, since it is now easier to root.

Long time reader; first time poster. I have a V30 running UAPP (thanks to advice and tips here!), and Tidal. It sounds pretty darn good through my legacy stereo, but I'm wondering if it would sound even better using a Modi 3. Has anyone got some experience with this combination and pros/cons to share?
Thanks!

Did you test DoP with UAPP?
I am still staying with Oreo because of thinking that this will not work.
You're right @ctheanh - DoP isn't working right now with LG phones running Android 10. I don't have much in the way of DSD, so not a big deal for me, but it might be an issue for others. I believe it's converting to 88 kHz PCM. I check check one day, if/when I get time.

As I understand, LG Music converts to 88KHz PCM, whereas UAPP converts to 352 KHz PCM. Check the post linked below (and that discussion):

I don't have any DSD either (except the 2L sample tracks). But as matter of principle, it sucks bad when DSD has to be converted to PCM before being sent to a Delta-Sigma DAC -- which then converts it back to DSD.
