So the best closed headphones under $500 would go to MDP?

  ^^ IMO, yes.

I have some I prefer slightly in certain areas but as an overall performer I would agree. It probably has the best performance of any hp under 500.

It sounds musical and really good and easy to enjoy.

Have you guys heard the SRH1540? Seems for reading the reviews, there is a lot to like about it, especially if you're ok with more bass than neutral. Its way lighter and touted to be more comfortable, too. Just curious...

Better than a Denon D5000?  Question for both Matt and my Oregon bud.

I heard 1540 and while they sound good they have bad isolation and in such case i would prefer Sony 7520 instead

Is it $500 RRP in this question? And the term "the best closed headphones under $500" is really subjective. Best for what? Isolation? SQ? EDM music? Classical Music?

I've seen TH600s go for less than $500USD (used) and I got mine virtually brand new for $580AUD. They're closed but don't isolate very well, I have't heard the MDP, but the Mad Dogs 3.2 (which I had) kill it for isolation, and comfort, but IMO the SQ on the TH600 is in a different league. For music with lots of vocals, maybe the Mad Dogs could compete, but for EDM the TH600s are much better

^i/we get the whole subjective part and superlatives are always said by me hoping people don't take it as an absolute.

I thank you for the insight into the th600 because I might derail to hear it before I get back on track with an AD or ZMF VIbro
