Btw as mentioned I did not even talk about the hd650. Only have the hd600 and it lacks sub bass compared to dt880 and Mad Dog. I see that I did not read everything before you posted, as I did not see you talked about hd650 then.

Yes the HD600 is even worse than the HD650, oh did you mean that the mad dogs go down to 20hz? Maybe I misunderstood.

Yeah a little misunderstanding from both . As for me I feel the hd600 cant compete with the Mad Dog at all, the hd600 is hearable down to 28Hz for me aslong as it is not just rattle in some way.

So can you hear the mad dogs down to 20hz with as much volume as 50hz for example? Or does it get a lot quieter? Best program to test is a free program called audacity, it lets you generate any tone you want. How would you compare the overall bass quantity of the mad dogs to other headphones? I am interested in them but I am a bit of a basshead, I would probably EQ the bass up.

It's not about perceivable volume, as per the equal loudness contour.  It's about perceivable energy.  The lowest and highest tones give more of a sense of pressure than volume.

At 18hz there is very faint 20hz more easy to hear and around 26hz it is equal in loudness as with 50hz(ofc my ears are not perfect so). Actually my wife is a basshead and she needs to eq the Mad Dog, but then she is satisfied with 25hz increase in 5db. But you will only get enough sub bass with a good enough amplifier.

Hmmm so they go down to about 25hz, thats pretty good, not sure if my Xonar STX or my NAD326bee will be a very good amp for them though. If you EQ the bass up by a ridiculous amount just as an experiment... Say leave everything below 80hz at 0db and the put everything else on the EQ -12db down from that.... Can they still do big bass at medium volumes or do they get all distorted? Thanks for the help btw.

They get distorted above 11db at medium/high volume with my pc and Asus Xonar Essence One. But yeah the bass gets big but not so good, feels like being in the toilet in a club almost.

lol what does being in the toilet at a club sound like to you? Do you mean distorted or quiet?

You hear all the sub bass and the rest is quiet, ofc you can turn up the volume to hear the rest but for me the bass is way to much then.

These are the headphones I own / had so it would be a good reference. Mad dogs look cool but I am worried about the bass as I will have to import from USA to UK with no returns available.

I have only heard the 840 and M50... the MD has more bass quantity/depth than either of them.

The 840 was a bit bass light for me but the M50 had quite a lot of bass, not very good bass, but quite a lot of it, maybe the mad dogs will have enough bass for me then. Also if the rest of the sound is excellent then I can live with a bit less bass.
