There aren't budgets in Head-Fi ; )And nearly double the budget of $500.

I use my Oppo PM-3's for travel and enjoy them for that purpose, sound pretty good, isolate well and are easy to drive. They sound nowhere near as good as the Ether C though, but they are a lot less awkward looking in public if that matters to you.
I've dabbled in my fair share of mid-fi headphones and for my next upgrade, i'd like to go for the summit.
I'm really curious to know just how much of a jump it is from something like the PM-3, MH40, H6, X2, Meze 99 and other mid-fi phones to the Ether C.

If wanting to go for the summit in MrSpeakers lineup go for the ETHER C Flow version. Reports seem really really good.

Then I'm guessing the flow version ups the mid-bass from the C?

That's what the reports are sayin'. That, plus the flow guides help with resolution as well, apparently. I haven't heard the Flow version but I want to upgrade my C to the C Flow based on reports.

If upgrading to Flow, you're replacing the driver right? So that means you have to burn them in all over again?

I would have waited and got the Flow, but I got a very good deal on the Ether-C. I will probably wait until production/upgrades times are shorter, but reading the reports doesn't make it easy to wait.

Eager to upgrade my C as well, just hoping to catch that form link before the spots fill up.

Are any overseas distributors going to be doing the upgrades? May be a bit of a hassle with customs, I personally wouldn't mind paying extra.

I am surprised that the Chord had so many recommendations, even over something like the Modi Multibit and the Asgard 2. I will give the Chord a try.

An excellent choice my friend

The mojo definitely has a certain "meatiness* that complements the Ether C rather well
