The main problem is that manufacturer make you pay for it , even if you don't use / want it.

But some of them begin to understant that and make no MQA version : https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-topping-dx5-lite-dac-amp-now-available-on-apos-audio.967262/

DX5 (MQA) : 450 $ ;
DX5 Lite (no MQA) : 350 $.

Same specs but 100 $ between them.
Why choose MQA version ????

If someone accepts paying more for something because it can do MQA why is that a problem for you ? They have other choices if they don’t want to pay for the MQA aspect of the equipment just buy something else.

I bought gear that suited my needs that happened to be MQA capable before I even bothered with Tidal so I was just buying it because I wanted it in a general sense not because it did MQA. I later tried Tidal and liked it so the MQA compatibility was very handy. I don’t object to previously paying more than some other device without MQA, that was my choice and my money.

Why choose the MQA version, because you happen to like Tidal, that is obvious.

Please don’t go down the same path as the other anti MQA warrior. I get and respect your opinion, I understand the facts, I just make different decisions based on those facts. Surely that is OK.

If any of this is a “problem” at all as people make it out to be it is the very definition of a first world problem !

Audio enthusiasts who almost certainly spend far more on gear than other non enthusiasts would think is reasonable complaining how another enthusiasts spends their money.

Audio enthusiasts who criticise MQA as a scam but who buy $2,000 IEM cables.

EDITED TO ADD: And audio enthusiats who buy very expensive high end tube amps that create subtle pleasing distortion that they prefer the sound of or others who buy several expensive solid state amplifiers looking for the perfect "synergy" with their expensive headphone to just roll off the harsh treble or warm up the mid range because that is how they like the sound best and then criticise an MQA user because they pay a small additional charge in a DAC and pay a cheap subscription for Tidal Master tier because MQA gives them something a little different in the sound that they happen to like.

Who's holding a gun to your head? If you don't want to buy it, don't buy it. Don't come crying to us.

Yes, features cost money. Licensing costs money. Throw out all your Sony devices, they're even worse with licensing schemes than Apple.

Qobuz high-res version sounds the same or even better than MQA, in that aspect they make you pay for thin air with their original master blabla.

MQA was initially created to solve the problem of transporting high-res audio over slow network but by the time they were ready technology caught up. Off course ROI was needed but Qobuz was proving high-res streaming didn't need MQA so they had to repitch their marketing gimmick to original master story.

If Qobuz didn't have such big gaps I would ditch Tidal in a sec.

MQA Isn't a scam. You are paying for a really cool purple light :)
Is purple even an official color? I get blue and green, like Miles Davis ;)

It's garbage. Some dodgy company trying to take over as much of the audio sphere as is possible/desirable for them to do so. Anyone who has to sell their product with so many lies, and a product with no benefits... only detriments... it's how things get worse in the name of profit. And the rest of us will/would have to deal with the consequences if they ever managed to advance their agenda unopposed. The artists and the people should own the music, not the suits who don't give a **** about any of us. They make the age of record companies of the past seem honest, lol. A CD was a CD. No snakeoil.

I have no time to persecute it, there are enough smart people more committed to audio than I am who'll do that. And that's how humanity ultimately progresses in general, by looking out for each other, and figuring out what's best, and what's worst. You could argue that our destructive tendencies do more for us, such as how technological leaps are made in the name of war, but that's still just people working together to correct a mistake, to end a perceived wrong, in that example by force.
And that's the best you can say about MQA, it's a mistake, and a wrong, that has brought people together constructively to oppose it.

Copied from the Tidal website:

‘TIDAL Masters
TIDAL has integrated MQA’s award-winning technology, and offers it to all TIDAL HiFi Plus tier subscribers under the ‘Master’ listing. Offering MQA sound quality allows subscribers to hear music just as it was recorded in the studio, signed-off by the artists and recording engineers.’

If this is how Tidal Masters works, then what was Neil Young complaining about?

That you don't need to sign up for his service or buy the DAP he sponsors. It's hard to take competitor's arguments seriously.
