Most exellent video game music

Even though it's about 23 years after the fact, I'll never, ever forget the music from the original Legend of Zelda for NES. Also, there was a game called "The Dig" from LucasArts that came out about 10-12 years ago that, besides being a fantastic game, had an exquisite Wagner-esque soundtrack. I still play that game from time to time just to hear the music.

I can't believe this thread made it this far without an Interstate 76 plug.
Best. Soundtrack. Ever.

Incredible game back in the day, too. The sequel was horrible.
I still have the original game because the game disc music will play in a standard CD player, so I'll occasionally listen to it in my car.

Classic funk.

Here's a taste

Battlefield Vietnam had a great sound track. Most of these songs would be playing on the radios strapped to tanks. It'd really get you pumped to kill something.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Fortunate Son" (opening theme)

Edwin Starr - "War"
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - "Nowhere to Run"
The Troggs - "Wild Thing"
Rare Earth - "Get Ready"
Canned Heat - "On the Road Again"
The Guess Who - "Shakin' All Over"
Count Five - "Psychotic Reaction"
Deep Purple - "Hush"
The Kinks - "All Day And All Of The Night"
The Kinks - "You Really Got Me"
The Box Tops - "The Letter"
Jefferson Airplane - "Somebody to Love"
Bobby Fuller Four - "I Fought the Law"
Budapest Symphony Orchestra - "The Ride of the Valkyries"

Another good one was Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

This one is beautiful.

I agree. And the original Tristam theme is amazing.

I just played this game for the first time last night, and I have to agree the game has unusual but interesting music.. cool game too! Definitely underrated..

I would also vote for the old Zelda games, the Mario Bros music (I wouldn't want to listen to it on my ipod, but it was definitely catchy and memorable), and the older Squaresoft RPGs (FFIII in particular) for the SNES.
