Moondrop in-ear monitors Impressions Thread

Did you check the graphs in the comparison tool on Crinacle's page?
Based on them, the KXXS is quite V-shaped, while the VS7 has a rather flat response.
That will give the KXXS forward upper mids, looks even rather brighter, with lean lower mids and (moderately) boosted sub bass.
Very different tuning.

Looking at it the other way around, the VS7 should have much more forward lower mids and upper bass, we have up to 8dB difference here. The 8kHz spike could come across as a little sibilant or intense in treble.
Flat is not what we shoot for. Just because one graph has a certain curvature doesn't mean it's V-shaped. We don't want flat like a speaker response. Headphones and iems have target curves, and you don't call them V-shaped or whatnot due to having curves.

These statements are based on my experiences with IEMs with quite similar graphs and my own measurements and experiences with a handful of IEMs.
I am doing my best to describe these experiences and relate them to people looking for information.
I have had the Moondrop KPE, which as you know is close to the KXXS, and I have the EX800ST which is not that different from the VS7.

After selling the KPE I missed the Moondrop tune so I purchased the new KXXS. But my first impressions were quite poor, and inferior to my old KPE. Gonna burn-in for some time, or maybe because of the SPC stock cable. My experiences with silver-plated copper only cable were all but negative.

It is quite different after burn in. Much better.

My moondrop A8 I got from Massdrop start to show channel imbalance. And a major one at that. damn.... Haha... Any idea of what to do guys?

I checked all sound tubes, no obstruction or earwax. I changed cable and tips and measure without the tips as well...

Contact mDrop and ask them who is honoring the "manufacturer's" warranty ?

If you get lucky and Linsoul was the distributor, they'll work with you.

Trying to send a PM through facebook explaining your case won't hurt: https://www.facebook.com/moondrop.offical/

I don't have the A8 but this brown damper on the nozzle could be the culprit here:

Any small piece of dust or earwax could possibly "clog" this damper thus causing a channel imbalance. Also, you can try putting your A8 into a ziplock bag + silica gel bags to dry it out in case your filter got clogged by ear moisture.

Some years ago I was freaking out because of a channel imbalance on my old Etymotic ER4B and it turned out that the damper was causing it, hopefully it was rather easy to replace for a new one.

Totally agree with you about the burn-in and stock cable. Out of the box tuning + stock cable won't justify the performance of this beautiful IEM. ^^
Did you do something to your faceplate? Looks like a silver carbon fiber skin or something.
