well they will and should - but that doesn't mean they don't have the right to replace it with the trumpets instead.

Does the difference (being sent tributes versus trumpets) lie in what country the replacements are done?
 
I'd be pissed unexpectedly being sent trumpets, which might color my interpretation of its sound.

I take it you haven't listened to them side-by-side, or are going by unreliable auditory memory? I actually have both still. The Tributes were designed to sound small and "intimate", like a small jazz club, so it would make sense that their stage would be smallish. Trumpets soundstage is much much larger.

Mystery is over! Vann's blew the description and photo regarding the so-called Tributes with control talk. Arrived is one box of Tributes and one box of Trumpets.
 
Meanwhile, I was all set to do a photo comparison and post it.
 
Since I wanted the tributes, I'll keep and try em. Trumpets are probably somewhere in my future given Tributes eventual breakage at some point.

LMAO. And I don't know how they stuffed all the MDT gear in the smaller box. It's like the gear expanded somehow after taking it out of the box.

I would have to test it but if I had to guess I'd say the tributes isolate a little better since the trumpets are slightly open.

I have to mention that there were two round wet marks on the inside box lid that registered with the iem's on the opposite side. I thought it might have been manufacturing grease, but I now think it was gel expelled from the tips. They weren't blown out and flabby, though. Kind'a stomach turning.

have a lot people been having QC issues with their MDT? (a quick search yields relatively few complaints, though some are similar to mine)
 
my first pair developed a tendency to produce static and even shock my ear. now my second pair is having some contact issues with the headphone plug - the sound gets an echo and is all distorted. both pairs have had a slight clicking noise in the right earpiece. this is a real shame since they are such a fine sounding earphone. i have done 2 RMAs now with monster's customer service and i will say that they are impeccable, but it is still disappointing that such fine headphones will have these kinds of issues. the warranty is great though.

Complaints I have heard about looked to be during 2010. The MDT appreciation thread is where I saw the cluster. Is yours recent? And the IEM's authentic?

I had the static problem develop(although I was never shocked). These IEM's seem to not like microfiber bed lining too much; If I get up relatively quickly from my bed while listening to them, the left earpiece would sometimes develop a hiss that wouldnt go away until I unplugged the headphones from the player. It definitely wasnt the player either, no other pair of headphones would do this..
As for QC issues.. The drivers are very fragile, and are prone to breaking from the seal causing excessive driver flex. The MMDT's should be babied..

yes they were both from Monster themselves, sealed retail packaging and all of that. Monster's service is so great that i was actually upgraded to the MDT after my previous MTPGs failed. again, not too impressive on the QC side, but very impressive on the service side.

i do treat them very carefully, i always carefully store them in one of the carry cases when they're not being used. what is odd is that the driver flex you're talking about, which i think is the same thing as i've been experiencing, was present from the moment i took both pairs out of the packaging. somewhat unusual i guess. oh well, it doesn't seem to effect the performance at all, so if that was the only issue i could easily get over it!
 
part of me is just getting fed up with IEMs though. i previously had some Phonak PFEs a few years ago...such great earphones. again, QC issues with that one too. very good customer service, however, as with Monster. maybe i'm just unlucky and keep picking the wrong IEMs. i wouldn't mind trying a higher end closed can though, since i often listen at school/work environments and can't be bothering others. but the reason i keep coming back to IEMs is the convenience/portability and the great isolation. when i use the MDT with the triple flange eartip i'm off in my own world...
