So I received my M1060s today! And a full day ahead of when it was scheduled (way to go, UPS)! I got the new version with 2.5mm connectors and smooth grills. I must say it's far more attractive in person than any of the photos/videos that I have seen. Surprisingly hefty as well.
After listening to it stock I can echo
@cskippy and that it sounds "blurry" for lack of a better word. I put in 3 inch circles of cheap Wal-Mart brand paper towels behind the grills and it does indeed clean up the sound a bit. Most noticeably the treble. I think I will see if I can pick up some black party napkins at the dollar store later this week. It probably needs some burn in but I'm not blown away sound-wise yet. I do have some vegan pads on order that should be here Monday and hopefully that cleans it up some more. Also, can't stand the feel of the pleather on my skin so I'm doubly excited the pads to get here.
I can see the complaints about the headband. It does indeed create hot spots on the top of my head. It might be caused because I have to have it have it on the last notch so the metal is adding to the top pressure. And I'm not very picky when it comes to headbands. I find my HE-400 very comfortable and my T20-RP MK III headband very usable. I'm planning on making my own custom velour headband. Shouldn't be hard if I use the existing one as a pattern.
The cable seems decent and flexible, albeit thin. I feel the right angle at the end is pointless for home use, though. Who sits perpendicular to their amp? I'm going to be on the lookout for a decently priced cable with straight jack. While doing the paper towel mod I took some pictures of the new insides. Forgive the poor quality of my phone camera.
It seems they have done the same finish on the outside of the grills as the inside. I'm pretty sure it's painted but it almost feels powder coated because of the texture.
It definitely seems they have finished the wood differently, at least on the inside. Whether this stops the cracking remains to be seen.
Here is the new 2.5mm connector. It's definitely a tight fit in there since the driver is so big. Hopefully it lasts longer than the MMCX connector.
