My buddy's M1060 just cracked at the hinge
Do you know if it actually had an effect on the structure or function of the headphone at all? Or is it simply cosmetic?

Unlikely. Audeze and hifiman has just as much Quality issues if not more. Google audeze quality control or hifiman quality control.

Honestly, the consistent location of the crack makes me think it's either a design flaw or a mistake in material choice/finish.
It's a stress fracture in wood...whatever the screw is going into is pushing the wood apart...
The audeze oil is this. I ordered a bottle and will apply to my m1060
Howard FW0016 Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish and Conditioner, 16-Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BKQYGW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-.hVyb9FJN0RA

Pretty sure the top layer of the cup is veneer? It certainly does not feel like wood to me. So I am not sure whether wood feed/conditioner would work on them?
