Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones
Nov 17, 2016 at 5:03 PM Post #151 of 8,051
Just ordered.

I really want to try the big boy,  but still curiosity has gotten the best of me!

I have been looking for a second set of headphones to supplement my Audeze LCD-X anyway, so, why not give these a shot?

I personally don't consider $200 that much of a risk.  I guess we all have different values.  Besides, some one has to be first.. right :)

Why did they have to push back the date on the 1060 again? I was hoping to get them if the reviews were stellar. Site says ETA: 2/9/2017

Probably due to some redesigns internally and externally.

They look interesting. I'm curious who the OEM is. Could it be Foster Electronics, e.g. Fostex? There TH500RP might be a base though they appear to be more of a HifiMan design.
seems more like O&E than fostex (fostex cant continuously make a good headphone properly and their planars are at best, meh)

there never were any ETA for 1060

The T50RP sound pretty darn good modded, but I guess its sad when you can't maximize performance with your own drivers.

It sounds like crap out of the box.

The TH900 is awfully v shaped the th-x00 might be cheap for a th900 family driver and sound much better but they are not consistent!
Lastly the real letdown is that even with that family they are best sounding when given to EMU and even that is overhyped

You mean the T50RP? Which revision? I thought the T50RP MK3's sounded pretty good stock.

We'll see how they sound compared to the M560's.

(Mine were supposed to have already been delivered, but this is the first time a Monoprice order was shipped to me with signature required. Of course, I had to leave the house for 15 minutes and that's when they decided to attempt delivery! Oh well, they removed the signature required and will try again tomorrow...)

Yes the T50RP Mk1 sounded bad stock. MK3s are still blown away by modded MK3s (that you can do yourself, remember they sometimes develop channel imbalance)

Don't think many people are impressed with the stock MK2 these days, modded however they're really good imo.

1. EMUs are not hyped.
2. Stock T50RP Mk2 are not awesome until modded but not bad either.

I don't post much here, but I took the plunge on a set of M560s yesterday. The idea of a portable planar which folds flat and can be an open or closed back sounds like the perfect travel headphone to me.  The plan is they would be the upgrade for my daily wear HD239s that live in my work bag.
