Meze EMPYREAN - the First Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone

I have emailed Meze for their comment, the local agent is ready to help, so I am not concerned. The last thing I want to do is to send mine in for repairs, which I don't think is necessary anyway.
If it shares the same design as Rean, it is non-solvable. What happens is that the 2 claws don't get to be fully pressed down in order to be released. It eventually causes a little dent inside the male cavity. Only noticeable by OCD users (a lot of us gadget freaks). some wd40 helps. Otherwise, soften the claw sharp part with a dremmel, lightly. This doesnt happen with my dt1770s. It is a stupid design flaw, really. I can guess its the same problem here. Gorgeous cans, though.

I have the exact feeling, after taking a closer look at how the tiny clamp is released by pressing the button, so little was moved to get out of the way, perhaps the tolerance is a bit too tight for comfort. The team at Meze, being very helpful and responsive, did suggest me to push the mini xlr in and out for a few times, perhaps to condition the mechanical motion of the clamp, its a bit better, but not before my thumb became a bit numb :). Otherwise like you said, a piece of beautifully made equipment from any angle.

When i made a custom cable for the dt1770 I noticed the difference... I have my k550 modded with Rean the same way and i don't care since i dont ever plan to sell them. I'll dremmel the claws and tell you what happened.

As part of a video series about a couple of non-audiophile friends trying out my headphones, they tried, and loved, the Empyreans. They are in Part 2 of the series here:

Very cool stuff Amos. Quality content as per usual!

You're aware that John Darko listed your channel as one of his favorite?

Thanks! I'm very aware. I was rather surprised, especially considering how ad-hoc I shoot some of my videos.

Listening to the empys with the audio sensibility impact copper balanced right now. Sounds great. They make great cables. I have their copper and silver statement now for the empys/lcd 4s.

Guys I'm having a problem with my new pair of Meze Empyreans, the connectors on both sides have become slightly loose causing the mini xlr connectors to rattle around when connected. Given the cost of these I'm thinking of sending them back to the retailer for a repair or replacement, but I'm dreading having to go through that process.
Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Empy. Please contact your local dealer first for any issues with your headphones, especially if they are covered by warranty. Let us know how it unfolds.

Thinking of treating myself - do they sound better single ended or on a balanced connection?
That the depends what will be the amp, the very best sound I heard from empys was from AURIS HEADONIA and it is single ended.
But with gsx-mini, they sound better from the balanced output, but there the difference isn't that big.
There is huge difference in single vs balanced output from AK SP1000M.

It's all a matter of how it is implemented nowadays. XLR is a better plug tho, so if you have the option to choose balanced do it, if you don't then usually it's no big deal
