Air cushion? You're in the wrong aisle, sir.
oh, am I?
To be in the "right aisle" should I write "pads"?
And please don't pretend you don't understand what I am asking about. I wanted to add a name but will leave it this time.

I mean....air cushion and pads: it's not obvious that they mean the same thing.

Does it look like an ear pad?

It seems the two fan favorites are the Brainwavz oval hybrids or the Dekoni elite sheepskins.

My ear cushions сan't be used any more after 4 years. I ordered a pair from aliexpress.com but they don't sound like the originals by far.
Which air cushions will you suggest me using?
Dekonis are the closest in size to the very original 99 pads, as is the sound.

I've been curious about the 99 Classics for a while. Never tried any, but when I was looking up FR graphs, I noticed it has some vague visual similarities with the DT 770 Pro 80ohm (which I have and love). They both have basically the same 4k dip. from 700-4000hz follows a similar shape to the 770, but just much more reduced. The bass shelf also looks like they just sort of boosted and extended it. I'm a bit of a bass head so I reckon the 99 Classics might be a nice replacement for my DT 770s. Does anyone own both to compare?

I have owned both, though not at the same time. There's a lot I enjoyed about the 770, but the extremely harsh and sibilant treble was a dealbreaker for me. The 99 is much much better in this regard.

I don't find the 770s too trebly in the sense that I just don't think I'm very treble sensive (I actually find my Arya's more sibilant), though I do prefer a darker treble response. I reckon the comfort of the 99s might be worth it alone. I love suspension style headbands, although I hate that they can wear out. My K702s have a rubber band keeping them elasticated!

This is an odd question, but can you remember if the inner diameter of the earpads on the 770s were larger or smaller than the 99s?

770 pads were definitely larger. I've got a big head with big ears, the 770 fit me fine. The 99 is just about as small as I would be willing to still call comfortable.

Interesting. I tried my DT 770s last night for the first time in a while and they are a better fit that I remember. I've got some 109 Pros on the way at the moment (found them on sale) so I'll see how I get on with them. I think I'm just in love with trying out lots of different gear haha.

Just to clarify, by better fit you mean comfort? Or sound to your liking? Or both :) ?

Both, but I mostly mean comfort, specifically the earpad diameter. Sounds good too, but I played with some EQ today and dropped the 2k region a few dB to try mimic one of the differences between the 770s and 99 classics and, as I expected based on my usual preferences, I really enjoyed it so I reckon I'd like the 99 classics too. Must give a set a try some time. I've notice that with my AKG K702s, reducing the 2k region (they have a bit of a bump there) with EQ makes them sound much more pleasing to my ears. It sort of explains why I enjoy some Hifiman headphones too as they generally dip a bit there also. My Meze Elites also has a big dip between about 1.4-2k and I find them very pleasing to listen to.

Thanks for explaining, that helps a lot! Let me ask though, after applying some EQ your DT770s still are quite a bit different than 99 Classics, aren't they?
