MEET IMPRESSIONS AND PICTURES - 2010 CanJam Chicago

When Tyll (the hardest working man in the business) was with Headroom, he also kept his room all night, and had microbrews
and all types of scotch available to all for consumption. Tyll and Todd know how to party. It must be a Montana thing.

Having an event where the majority of Head-Fier attendees have to Fly in will severely restrict the amount of member gear that will be present, and the number of actual Head-Fiers in general.

If there are enough Head-Fier's in and around the Denver area, I say there is no problem with CanJam being at RMAF.  Ironically it would go back to the old format of one huge room.  Funny how lots of people complained about having multiple rooms (myself included, yes, I'll eat crow, mmmm. tasty), but it ended up working out very well.

Otherwise, CanJam is an equal mix of location and local support.

But when it comes down to it, I could easily go to a meet with nearly no gear, as it's mostly about meeting old and new friends.  I go to enough trade shows every year, when I go to CanJam, I go for fun primarily.

I will be seeking out some top tier hotels this and next week near LaGuardia and JFK.
Johnnie Numbers said when he'e in the area, he going to check out Newark. Newark is a hardship for me because there is this big island called "Manhattan" that stands between me and it.

If I were a crow and flew as one does, it's only 40 miles from my home. LaGuardia and JFK are 15 miles.
If we can find one that has reasonable accommodations and banquet rooms, then there's a good chance that members will get to take a nice trip to NYC next April. May is a huge marriage month in these parts and this gives us an extra months spread between Canjam NY and RMAF. We can have our cake (or brownies) and eat it, too.

If you are moving CanJam from beginning of summer vacation to April, it will make it a lot harder for some of us that have to spend money on spring break with our kids at the end of March.

Aaron and crew know what they are doing. May is very tough, Chicago was the same way, wedding season really eliminates your choices, coupled with memorial day weekend. Summer months are very tough to schedule especially with the nicer places, and attendance can be just as problematic as adults and families have summer plans, travel and vacation, holidays, etc. Chicago crew got lucky with early June and even that date was a compromise for many, as evident by the lack of local attendance and gear. April is a solid month and I am sure Aaron and crew will find the best date and venue that will have the least negative impact. RMAF in October is also bound to have more of a HF presence and it's important that the international meet not be too close to RMAF.

I was very happy that there was a "meet" at last years RMAF, because I found that experience so much more enjoyable than the "main event" (compared to previous RMAFs I had attended in 1996 and 1997).  The enthusiasm and "helpfulness" levels at RMAF -- especially by Larry G., Bill W. and Alex (Audeze) -- transformed an awful day into a great one.  I just couldn't get past the commercialism, 500W amps, and hall-shaking bass of the main event.  Also, my impression is that not many of the "tire kickers" from the main event were too busy looking behind speakers to come down to the head phone/amp meet.  I could go on about this forever.

I would love to attend to a national meet some day, but the scheduling never seems to fit in with my job or vacation travel schedule.

So, my .0000001 of a vote goes to New York.  The East Coast is easiest for me to get to and winter transatlantic flights are cheapest (Nov-Feb).

Be warned, I prefer to listen to music more than technology and, when I do go to Audio shows, i tend to seek out the best sounding room and then camp in it periodically to relieve the stress of so many bad systems, which is hard to do when there is line of 50 people behind you waiting for the headphones!

Kevin:
Are you sure it was Water that got into your amp?

Incredibly psyched to see this coming to NYC!

Is NYC a done deal now?  I thought it wasn't decided yet.
