Massdrop x Grace Design SDAC - a budget beast

Does this Function as a 3.5mm line in dac? or DO I NEED RCA into amplification? I'm just looking for a relatively cheap, but good quality unit sub 100 USD. Interested in trying an AKM dac engineered by grace.

Just need it to hit mass drop again.

Hi Skylit,
You have two ways to get signal out of the SDAC: 3.5mm output & RCA outputs

You can use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable if you are going into a portable amp like a Leckerton UHA-6 Mk II.
Or, you can use 3.5mm to RCA cable into a bigger amp.
Or, RCA to RCA cable into bigger amp.

I ordered a HD660S and the Massdrop CTH + SDAC. Will the CTH be able to drive the 660S adequately? There's a discussion on the CTH discussion (the one without SDAC integrated) on Massdrop where some folks are arguing the CTH cannot adequately drive the Maddrop HD6xx / HD650 / HD600.

Easily. My CTH does great with my HD 6XX, and the HD660S is easier to drive.

I strongly disagree - I have HD600, and the CTH drives it very well.

The HD660s is already much more efficient than the HD600 and HD650. I wouldn’t worry about it, or the HD58x.

By now I figure many people have had the chance to review the SDAC. How do you like it? How does it compare to the other sub-100 DAC, and to its famous brother, the m9xx?

It sounds exactly like a sub 100 dac. Buy the mimby for 120 more and you will be much happier.

Not everyone wants to spend $200 on their entire headphone setup, much less just the DAC. The SDAC sounds great for its price.

Haven't heard the M9xx, so can't answer that part. But the SDAC is a fine piece of equipment. I have had no issues with it and the sound is clear. However, I sincerely doubt I can tell any difference between it and the DAC in my old E10 in a blind test. When I changed DAC's, there was no immediate change in sound quality to my ears. Period.

In my opinion, DAC's are a minor part of the chain, with quality of your music files and headphones being far more important in the overall result.

Wouldn’t be surprised, honestly. After all there’s still a correlation between quality and price.

Anyway I’ve got myself some quality DACs at the moment, just thinking of some affordable DAC to go with my Aego M speakers.

Any word on if/when this will be available again?

edit: snagged an SDAC/MCTH combo on ebay for the price of the amp alone. dude ran the thing for 2 hours and decided he didn't like it. didn't even burn the tube in fully...

@CEE TEE really keen to see this back on drop!
Thank you both, there is a world-wide shortage of some parts...we are trying to get this back up and running soon!
