"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review

So far I haven't heard a headphone that couldn't be improved with EQ. After measuring the MadDog, it's warmth was confirmed, but EQing it to have near equal FR to my other cans still leave it sounding warm.not sure if it's the angle the drivers are firing at and the way the sound hits your ears or what. It could be a time domain thing--no reflections inside the cups.

One thing I did note; the treble end is more variable with position than my other cans. Doesn't sound that way on my ears, but it measures that way on my rig. In any case, it's an interesting can that makes no fatigue when it comes to comfort or SQ.

Oh no, not the EQ to not to EQ debate again.

If you want to EQ and find the sound improves that's great. Just don't sell your recipe to someone who has tried it but didn't like it. There will always be two schools of thought here.

Not much to see here, let's move on.

For those that read German or can use Google Translate, here's an interesting study on the topic: http://www2.ak.tu-berlin.de/~akgroup/ak_pub/abschlussarbeiten/2010/RotterAndreas_MagA.pdf

It certainly has it's limitations, but it's interesting. Too bad headphones all have different housings! Lol. Anyway, if the last comment was directed at me, I was unaware that there is an antiEQ faction in headphone listening. I knew there used to be a long time ago in HiFi loudspeakers. I certainly didn't mean to offend someone or anyway. It's about the love of music, sound and gear.

The trumpet and trombone analogy works pretty wellin this scenario--you can't make them equal. You might be able to take an annoying, ear splitting tone out of them with a mute though.

I don't know that I'd say I'm part of an anti-EQ faction perse, but I never use it and know plenty of others like me.

There are some who will get vocal and confrontational about it though.

If you EQ you're listening to it wrong.

I have, in fact, noticed this when wearing them, although the difference is subtle to me.

Anyway, I'm not against EQ, I just think it's a bit of a hassle compared to buying a headphone that sound the way you'd like to begin with. *shrugs* (We need a shrug smiley.

Two pairs of Mad Dogs on their way for tune-up Dan; they're expected Tuesday.
I can't wait to hear the improvements! Oh, and the wait is killing me. The GR07s are definitely not on the same level as the MDs, nor are my speakers... :(

Just got the return shipping conformation from Dan. Looking forward to hearing the Mad Dogs tuned up to 3.2. I should have time it a little better though. Probably won't get them until Tuesday do to the weekend and Holiday.

This is the first time I'm hearing about these revisions to the Mad Dog (it's the first time I've been on headfi in a while).  I just found out there was a 3.0 and 3.2, and I was sure I had the 3.0, but then I hear about version 3.1... I fell like I'm on the HE-400 thread, haha.

I got mine on april 2nd, can someone tell me which one I have please?

Never mind, just read the newsletter someone posted a few pages back. I'll wait a few months before I think about upgrading from 3.1 :)
