Yes, I did all of that.
To upload the firmware, I am using the LP Tool. I select "file," click on the .bin file for the new firmware, then click on "auto," and let the updater run. It runs until it says, "verifying success." So it seems like it should be working, but there is obviously something I'm not doing correctly.

Have you ran the ISP Tool with admin privilege?

Leaving as a .rar file, the update tool doesn't let me locate and select it. I'm only able to select .bin or .binary files

It all seems to work, but when I 2x check the FW version, it is the old version (1.0.3.6). And, my iPhone doesn't recognize the W2 is connected.

Yes that's not the issue...the file I downloaded is a .rar file (this is the format it's in on the google drive), which I've extracted to a .bin file. The tool recognizes the latter, not the former.

Delete uninstall everything restart your computer and do it again.
The firmware I used is few pages back and my W2 works much better then ever, both being stable and greater sound.
I wish I can help more.

Not hearing any significant change on OG with new firmware. Might be a slight tinge softer, less jittery. Definitely didn't make it sound worse or turned into a brick. All good.

W2 Is really a great USB DAC and hopefully all problems will be solved. Let us know.

Yup, works fine with the new firmware showing. It just got hung on verifying twice (update was still applied successfully)
