so you enjoy an analytical sound I assume... For an open back headphone for home, try the AKG K702/K701 if you can.

Noooo, don't say that, the QJ 701's are what i've been looking at, but they are alot more than i was ever thinking of spending.
I can get the AKG Q 701 Quincy Jones  shipped for $184, i'm trying to work out if i'd use them enough to justify the price. Ideally a baby brother model would exist!

Thank's for the suggestion.

... Ah the Q701... Basically the same as the K702/K701 depending on who you ask. (Some think they are slightly different sounding) ok so too much to justify the price... How about a Brainwavz HM5 then?

It is suprisingly the £70 here in the UK, a bit more  most HP are much cheaper from amazon.com. I was initially recommended the Brainwavz/Fisher/Tascam 02 (for cheap).

I was looking at the NVX Audio XPT100 and have heard that
"This headphone is apparently a.k.a. Fischer FA-003, Yoga Cd-880, Digitech Pro Monitors, Jacar Pro Monitors, Brainwavz HM-5, Lindy Premium Hi-Fi, Studiospares M1000...clones from  China."

Is this true? the NVX is cheaper on Amazon.com, but extra shipping charges & said to be more comfortable.
Will these destroy the Superlux HD668B? everyone likes to talk about them.

Thanks alot for your help

they probably will. They outclass the ATH-M50 by quite the margin. I personally suggest buying from Brainwavz due to their fantastic customer service and the accessories included. (two pads, a case, two cables)

I got the Logitech UE 6000 last week, my immpressions were that the sound of the UE 6000 was a bit too jumpy, lively and bass oriented.

Out of my Magni and Modi the UE6000 is fairly flat with slightly recessed mids and slightly rolled off highs.

Out of my Dragonfly its way too bassy (in passive mode of course).

You could try other sources.

Thanks, It's already gone back though, good value HP, but not the right sound or fit for me.
Am now looking at the AKG range:
£120 AKG Q 701
£105 AKG Pro 612
£70   AKG 551
Having been recommended the Brainwavz HM-5, i am thinking maybe spend that bit more for better quality. The big stores i've tried don't stock the AKG range very well unfortunately.
With the 701/612 i have no headphone amp /DAC, just my AVR and basic flac/mp3 player.

Not sure why you are hung up on AKG but I have heard some good things about the 551, but look into the bass. For the Price the UE 6000 is a good can, but if money is an issue I get why you returned it. To me it is the best 69.00 I have spent on hp's. I think it is hard to remember these were more on full retail. Do I have others I like better? Yes. But for the money probably one of the best bangs for the buck there is in hp's.

Thanks Dubstep, why the 612's over the Q701?
The 701's/Beyer 880/Senn 600's seem to be best in class, depending upon your taste in sound. The 701's are the most affordable, but still very expensive for me.
Any idea of the minimun amp pricing i can get away with these? It'll be going through my Yamaha/Laptop.
Too bass light for your dubstep i take it!

Hi subguy, the AKG have been recommended several times due to their clarity/precision, 551's are in there as  a cheaper, closed alternative.
I am on a budget but ideally would have a couple of HP's, one for home and for now i'm looking at the cheap Koss KSC75's for out
The UE6000 was good value, i agree there, mine were £50 and I would recommend them.

i paid around $85 USD last year and think they are well worth it.  they are my primary over ear headphones.  i think they'd work great on an airplane as they have very good isolation even in passive mode.  noise cancelling is more of a boost volume and bass/treble than actual noise cancelling.  but like i mentioned they isolation sound just fine with NC turned off.  i recommend these for hip hop, EDM, modern top 40, and music like that.  they are not the best with classical and jazz and stuff like that imo.

what source you going to be using? i thought they needed an amp with my old galaxy S3, dont seem to need an amp on my LG G3.

Thanks mate.

I really only listen to electronic, alternative, indie....

I would be using my Sony f886, so they shouldn't have any issues driving these id assume. Would also be running them out of my new Toshiba ultrabook for videos.

I primarily use IEM's, just wanted something for when im on the road/travelling.

These sound like good value as I really didn't want to spend a whole lot. If they were my everyday headphones, sure, I would spend a lot more.
