List/Rank Headphones That Have Forward Midrange

The SRH840's definitely has an upper midrange honk. Problem with it is that their lower midrange is very thin, making the mids of it sound out of sync and not altogether forward (my least favourite part with SRH840 is the midrange).

The Senn HD595's need mention here. They are uncharacteristically forward for a pair of Senns.

I think you would like the ATH AD 900's. Reasonably priced at around $280 with excellent midrange and clarity overall.

Pretty much every popular head-fi phone has lots of treble. Be it Audio Technicas, K701, Denons, Ultrasones, Grados, Beyers. You can't really go wrong.

I had the denons both AH-D2000/7000, while have somewhat of a forward treble, had recessed mids that really bothered me. So yes, while I do like the treble, I really like the forwards mids with them.

I also like forward mids, however I hate any sign of upper midrange emphasis or lower treble spike, so probably what doesn't work for me will work out for you.

Check out the Stax SR-303 and 404, they do have that electric midrange coloration that comes from overemphasized upper mids but are very accurate in other respects. The Omega 2 Mk2 also has somewhat of an upper midrange emphasis though to a lesser degree than the SR-404. The original Omega 2, however, does not, so you have to be careful as to which version you buy if you decide to go that way. The SR-007a is the same thing as the Mk2, however there was a limited edition SR-007 Black that looks a lot like the SR-007a but is mechanically identical to the SR-007.

Audio-Technicas can also have a similar coloration. My A900 certainly has it.

The Koss A250 is also voiced like that and offers really good value for money if you can find a pair. I find it uncomfortably bright and dislike the tone but it is very technically capable.

AD900 sound pretty good for you, or the AD1000 cheaper than the AD2000 but more forward mids with both

Midrange are my headphones' bread and butter

1) Stax Omega 2 MK1
2) Audio Technica W11R
3) Audio Technica W2002
4) Audio Technica W11JPN
5) Audio Technica ES10JPN
6) Sennheiser HD598, Audio Technica W1000

Now I really wonder how does the SR-007 Mk I compare to the Mk. 2. As the Mk.2 sounds quite dark and laid back to me, not what I will call forward with midrange at all.

I prefer slightly forward mids, but not too forward. Here's a list of my favorites:

Koss Pro DJ 100 ($80) - One of my favorite budget headphones of all time. Great for Jpop and female vocals.
AKG K601 (slightly forward sounding, but not too much. Compared to the K702, they most definitely sound this way)
HD-598

KRK KNS-6400 - I feel as if this has slightly forward mids. I can't say that about the 8400 I think.

Koss MV1 - This headphone is OK and has some very forward mids. I didn't like this much though, but it's not bad.

I'd love to try the Koss A250 someday. Maybe I'll hunt down a pair.

SRH-840 - sometimes a little too forward in the upper mids, but not bad.Loved this headphone when I had it, but not the comfort.

Opinions seem to vary alot between the two models. It seems that the MK2 is the more colored model. What amplifier did you try it out of?
