I have noticed some entries in The List are for just a DAC, others are for a DAC/Transport combo, some even have a reclocker/resampler/etc device in there.
Should we have a standard on what is to be deemed A Single Line Item on this list? I am starting to think it should be from transport (i.e. sound card, cd transport, airport express, whatever) through to analog outputs. But then should we include cables? Other extreme would be to totally break it up - section for one box units, transports, DACs, and another for things in between...
My SFD-II Mk.III (~$6k) rig is also going to include a Genesis Digital Lens ($1.8k) after the SFT-1 transport ($2.3k), feeding an Assemblage D2D-1 ($0.7k) before the DAC - a four box affair totaling a USD MSRP of $10,795, plus another $905 in digital cables putting it at $11,700.
Then do we count pgrades? I will probably send my SFD-II Mk.III to the Parts Connexion for a $695 "Special Edition Plus" upgrade, and my SFT-1 for a clock upgrade... do those "Factory Supported" mods add to the price of my line item?
Counting tubes would get ridiculous... anyway what WAS the MSRP of a pair of Siemens CCa......?
Also, given that I am going to hopefully going to keep my Pass D1 as well, if we're calling the "Digital Source" the whole widget, does it get another line item with the other three boxes in front of it as well, as that will obviously be the optimal configuration it will see in my system, or should I just pick another one of my transports and give it a new unrelated line item?
Also I guess I could throw a nice transport in front of my Assemblage DAC-2 and break $2k again
...thoughts?
[size=xx-small]and yes, i wear only size US 8 (sometimes 9!) shoe and just want to break the $10k club
