Is Creative EMU0404 USB DAC supported using the lightning to usb connector?   Did you get it working?  Pretty much all external AC powered DAC's work right?

Don't know for sure about EMU0404, but in general it is not so straight-forward with iOS and externa DAC, with the biggest issue being how much current does the DAC requests from the host. Note that the amount of current the DAC requests quite often does not have anything to do with how much it actually consumes. I mean don't fall into this trap: the fact that the DAC is AC powered is not a guarantee that it won't get rejected by an iOS device for consuming too much power.

I've just bought a MayFlower O2/oDAC unit predominantly for use with my laptop and also line in from my DX50. This will be mains powered as it will be pretty much static in my office.

Does anybody know if the iPad4 will work with this via the CCK?

thanks.  It would be really nice to have someone try this and see if it works with Creative EMU0404 USB DAC...  I don't want to buy new iPad and EMU0404 DAC just to find out it doesn't work....

I own a first gen ipad mini and was wondering what I need to hook up a Aune T1 to it. I am running the latest public release of iOS 7

No need to feel offended here, dude! People may be reluctant to post cos they don't have the hardware you're asking about.

For one, what exactly is "iPad 4"? If this is the one with Lightning connector, then you shall be looking for lightning to USB camera adapter, not the CCK (which was 30-pin). But sorry - I still don't know about ODAC compatibility, so here's another brick in that wall... :)))

Ipad4 -> lightning cck ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter?fnode=3a ) works with odacs, but you need a usb hub in the middle.  The hub does not necessarily need to be powered, and I can tell you from personal experience that not all usb hubs work.

I run this setup as a bedside rig and am currently using a dlink 4 port hub (which ships with an ac adapter but doesn't need to be plugged in - http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Hi-Speed-4-Port-Powered-DUB-H4/dp/B00006B7DA ).  Humorously, I get an error message when I plug in the odac, indicating that the device is not supported, but it works perfectly regardless.  My ipad4 -> lightning cck -> ? -> odac also works perfectly (with no error message), with the usb hubs built into two of my dell monitors.  It did not work with the one usb3 hub that I tried (which I believe was made by kdLinks).

Edit: I should note that I haven't tried without a hub since the latest update.  Maybe one day they'll actually revert ios to how it used to be, when they didn't run a bogus power check to keep people from easily using usb thumb drives.  Then again, it's hard to sell super high capacity devises at an enormous premium if people can just carry their movies and surplus lossless audio with them on removable media.

^perhaps it was a decision based on speed and battery life. Still, I wish the various iterations of CCK were cheaper.
To get extra media storage (not app storage), look at something like this:

I doubt it

It looks like we have a very big development in iOS audio: Onkyo (who'd expect, huh....) came up with a new iOS app called Onkyo HF Player.
It's a free audio player app with a 9.90 in-app purchase unlocking HI-Res audio playback and files sync for up to 24/192 AND DSD, including both PCM conversion and (!) direct DoP streaming. The app avoids internal restrictions of idevices and is capable to stream Digital hi-res and DSD without downsampling to an external DAC via CCK or Lightning USB adapter.

I tested the app with my iPad mini (original, iOS 7.0.3)+ Lightning USB adapter into M2Tech hiFace DAC. No problems at all playing anything up to DXD 24/352.8 WAV and .dsf and .dff files (2.8 and 5.6) converted to PCM as M2Tech HiFace DAC is not DSD-capable. Soundwise everything is very nice, but because my DAC has no display or LEDs to indicate the sample rate, I can't confirm.

Interesting, isn't it? Looks like the first ever app enabling DSD from iOS. Kudos, onkyo!!!!

This app is no longer available on the iTunes app store.

You have got to be kidding me, is this going to be one of those "dead apps" that appear just for a brief moment and if you manage to snag it ...you had it?

I can't believe I didn't order this a few days ago.

It's back, I just bought it, but then the description it says it only does 2496 support for wav files

If that's the case maybe the people who bought the first app that's capable of running 24/192 files should wait until people like myself that bought the app later can see if we're able to run those high-resolution formats. It's possible that they may have limited this 24/96. So don't press that update button yet.

One thing to check:  In your version, under [Settings (gear graphic) -> Upsampling Mode] does it say the following?

"Select this mode for 88.2 kHz/96 kHz/176.4 kHz/192 kHz audio up sampling (when connected to a compatible external audio device).  Select 48 kHz Mode to upsample lower quality audio to 48 kHz."

If it omits the 176.4 kHz/192 kHz language, it probably means the developers did limit the functionality in the new release.  I know the old version upsamples by a factor of 2, but I only checked with 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz files (getting 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz output, respectively).  I have not checked 2x upsampling on 96 kHz files, although I don't have a nice way to do so.  The only USB DAC that I have that plays nice with the iPhone 5c (through a hub) is the FiiO E17, and it does not do 192 kHz through USB -- only through SPDIF.
