I just realised I know someone who backed a geekwave 32, but hasn't been following this thread much regarding issues as I didn't back it. Whats going on with the 32? Sorry for the trouble!

They can't just walk away from a stretch goal obligation and produce something far cheaper (plastic) and not be reneging.
 
Thats a bait & switch, and they tried the same BS with the Vi DAC but the members called them out, until Larry announced they would honor the T6061 milled enclosure.
 
Blaming a heat/operating temperature issue isn't being honest at all, resin is as you said, an insulator, while aluminum would dissipate heat.
 
This is already taking forever to manufacture, I can hardly believe with no enclosure finalized that LH Labs is sticking to their July shipping date.
 
I for one don't want a cheap plastic chassis as a way to come closer to that pie in the sky ship date. They promised the X128 and XD128 would have an aluminum enclosure, it's not our problem that they offered so many different configurations of the Wave and thus now have a problem with not being able to use the same enclosure for all.
 
Plastic is cheap, why would any of us at this point want to help chop LH Lab's costs, they've had our money for a year or more by the time these units ship.

$555,555 Stretch Goal Obliterated!

Great news!  We've easily surpassed our $555,555 stretch goal!  Now everyone will get a new, improved enclosure for their Geek Wave.  And X 128 and XD 128 backers are going to get that beautiful aluminum enclosure.  Woohoo!

In spite of what I said earlier, I do think they should go with aluminum - I'm worried about the durability of resin and they did make it a stretch goal gift. I didn't pay north of $1K for what amounts to fancy plastic. I think they just want to play with their new toy (the 3-D printer, which surely cost a nice chunk of change...a bit of an extravagance with so many unfulfilled products imo).

I too vote for aluminum, for the durability and particularly its heat conductivity and dissipation abilities.

That said, plastics can be incredibly tough and the right ones with a good design might be a reasonable choice. Might be, but would still fall way behind in the ability to get rid of excess heat.

To my knowledge, Aluminum seems like a more suitable and obvious choice compared to epoxy resins.

Heat capacities are similar, so all things equal, both should run equally hot.
Crucially though, the thermal conductivity and dissipation of aluminum is significantly higher than epoxides. that's gotta be a good thing if you've got any issues with heat generation from your components, no?

I'm not too sure what the differences are between aluminum and other metals, but I do believe a metal chassis is definitely the way to go for a DAP packing as much power as the Wave variants.

How about a vented aluminium chassis? Properly placed vents should help dissipate heat well.

Vents will take in too much dust and the odd spritz of water could ruin it, too. I'm very skeptical of the resin angle they're pushing.

I dunno what it's made of, but my $30 Sansa Clip Zip has survived many falls and it's all plastic. My microSD card has died before my Clip Zip has. XD

The surveys had incorrect info (listing me as down for a vaporware geekwave32, whee) with no way to correct it. Manny hasn't responded to emails.

Just checking if other people are having difficulties, too.

They have a much bigger CS team now. I'd recommend going through the ticket system. They're much more responsive than in the past. Good luck and cheers

Manny is still working with LH but he's taken on a different role in the company.
 
I know it's been said many times but emailing isn't the best way to reach them. Open a ticket and the customer support team will be able to get back with you quickly. Heck, some of my tickets received a response within 40 minutes of opening. They've found their stride and they're moving a lot more quickly than before.
 
Edit: Michael is a jerk and said the same thing I did in fewer words. But at least I think mine was better written.
