Light Harmonic Geek Wave

Yup I know. Sorry. They are copy and pastes and behaviour from PDFs are problematic. If I could just attach the files I would, but that does not seem an option.

I am just doing a little research into the LH Geek Wave Heat and Casing problems. It si for them really and they can take it further. I doubt the general readership is interested but I need the attention of LH Labs techies and Larry not the commercial money spinning ad management guys who know zilch about all this in reality it seems.

There are companies which bond resins or epoxies with aluminum for heat dissipation in electronic devices. The first one with aluminium…hmmm.

and

What is not clear is how strong the cases are?

I'll stop now having made a point and waits for an LH response. Sorry to clutter up the forum.

There is no need to study this design to death it's so up in the air at this point, anything said is just pure conjecture.

Casey's stated it's not a sticker but somehow an incorporation of CF/Ti into the body as a skin.

Besides, we're also getting a switchable 1,000mW output. That's worth a bit of that money.

I always thought that a 1W portable player is silly and was not the reason why I perked the Titanium edition, my very initial reluctance about it was just that heat issues, now it sounds like they are seeing it for what it is, a problem. Frankly lower the power, problem solved but by all means don't cheapen the player for other sakes, It is a dissapointment enough with what I have seen so far.

How about a clear resin with a titanium or carbon fiber back as I have backed the Titanium enclosure.

Would be great to see all the bits of the Wave.

How about some transparent resin with titanium flakes in it? Could claim it's titanium. By the way they should sell it with with David Guetta's "Titanium fteaturing Sia" song on it blasted at 1000mW through a pair of Balanced Verb.

On the subject of 3D printing; Lhlabs has bought a printer and treated it like a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

On the positive side I heard that they are introducing a new model to substitute the defunct 32 GB model, it's a two sided half sized screen, one side is OLED and the other is brand new technology that is apparently a semi active display surface that shows supplemental information without stealing the track information displayed from the top screen. Among other things, it's showing all kind of stats about the player. I forgot the name they gave it, I think it's called Wave Excalibur. It's supposed to be memory less but will have the two SDXC slots, reduced battery capacity and capable of hooking a large powered drive to it, pretty much like the X5. Let's hope Larry or Gavin comes up with a better explanation and specs.

From Ars Technica: The ugly afterlife of crowdfunding projects that never ship and never end: Even projects crowdfunded to excess enter tense, never-ending development hell.

It's been said and will continue to be true; crowdfunding is not for everyone. It is not a sale, it's supporting an idea or a company with your money no matter how long it may take to see results.

Here's a Kickstarter project that serves as a perfect example. Read the comments and you'll know if crowdfunding is for you or not.

It just goes to show that being able to manage a project to fulfillment is just as important as the idea itself.

i am happy i supported a new company but to be honest i will be selling my products as soon as i get them, definetily not for me. one thing that i learned is that when getting equipment in addition to the performance i also value customer support, quality of build and a long term support of customers. verdict still up for lh labs and i just want out. i hope years from now i regret my desicion but i just had it.

I've been a big, vocal complainer about some of the LH issues. I have to say, though, my Geek Out 1K sounds great, which led me to order the Geek Out Special Edition, which sounds fabulous (much better than the 1K), and had me jump in for many of the other offers. So far, feedback on all the electronics, as far as SQ goes, have been very positive. Sure, this crowd funding stuff is a pain in many ways, but at least sound wise, these guys seem to deliver the goods (exception: the iems, which they seem to have outsourced, poorly, it seems). I went for an in ear headphone called Decibulz, which was supposed to be a sort of do it yourself in ear with molds that you prepared to fit and seal your ears. But, the headphones sound awful to my ears. Many other products don't even make it to the production stage. So, I'm holding my breath and hoping the other stuff I have coming (Wave, Vi Dac, Source) do as well as the other electronics so far without major other problems.
My $0.02

RE SURVEY

I hope folk who have XD128 PERK remember that in a campaign letter we were told

"Oh, BTW.  We will also upgrade you from 128GB's to 256GB's of internal flash storage.  Basically your Geek Wave is now the XD256!

Once again, this perk will apply to Geek Wave XD128 only, due to the board space and cost limitations."

I don't actually see this mentioned in the perks on survey so I have opened a ticket to ask if this perk is being honoured and they remember that they told us this becasue if they/ the packers or whoever blindly follow the survey we could end up with 128GB storage instead of the 256GB we were told we have.

They have sent out so many contradictory campaign letters and names that I am  confused as it seems they are by now by their many product strands, hence requiring us to tell them what we expect after they have all the invoices form PayPal.

I vaguely remember this...I don't recall who it applies to. Was this a stretch goal? I think the design side needs to muzzle the marketing side. Oops - too late.

That was part of the DAD upgrade, if you did not back the DAD upgrade you don't get the 256GB of internal flash storage.

You may be right - too many upgrades and perks to keep track of them all. I'm at the point where I'll be thankful if I get anything at all. Many successfully funded projects go nowhere - at least they are delivering products...many people have been left high and dry, so although it's been a bumpy road, I think we'll get something in return. Whether it's the ultimate DAP or not is anybody's guess.
