Light Harmonic Geek Wave

Casey's stated it's not a sticker but somehow an incorporation of CF/Ti into the body as a skin.

Besides, we're also getting a switchable 1,000mW output. That's worth a bit of that money.

What does he mean by 'skin'? That bit is still kind of vague to me...1,000mW is A LOT of juice for a portable.

Sorry bro, it seems emotions gotten in hand.

Maybe like those phone cases that have a soft inner cover and then a hard outer shell, but in this case, a hard resin case then a CF snap on sleeve type thing?

The Geek Out's chassis is made to withstand the Class A heat.  The new chassis will dissipate it a bit more though.  We've found that resin is far more forgiving and easy to work with and allows us the ability to produce chassis a much more rapid pace.

As far as the cabin fiber goes, we'll be incorporating carbon fiber into the chassis in the most effective way possible to make the SE's stand out.  Same for the titanium SE.

Since when does resin dissipate heat more effectively than aluminum?

Why was there a stretch goal of a nice looking aluminum chassis marketed, but now you quietly switch to resin?

I'll answer my own question, but feel free to officially respond anyway, you are significantly cheapening the enclosure to cut cost.

Are you trying not to honor the below?

June 29, 2014 IGG Update:

$555,555 Stretch Goal Obliterated!

Great news!  We've easily surpassed our $555,555 stretch goal!  Now everyone will get a new, improved enclosure for their Geek Wave.  And X 128 and XD 128 backers are going to get that beautiful aluminum enclosure.  Woohoo!

We haven't made a final decision on the chassis material for Geek Wave.  My comment in regards to resin were about the Geek Out 2 prototype.

We're working on a variety of design and material choices for the Geek Wave and will go with whatever our team feels provides the best form and function.

Probably like a sleeve.

I cannot clarify what they meant by skin, and since they didn't have specifics worked out it sounded like they weren't sure how it would end up being integrated either. Gavin did say they were looking into possible protective layers like sleeves and various materials to use. It could be where they end up using the Ti and CF material. Depending on how it's used I may prefer to see my titanium

No need to apologize my friend. The word skin is often associated with a 3M adhesive that resembles a sticker in every way. I wasn't sure what they meant at the time either but I'm trying to hold my personal thoughts on the subject until there's more firm details available. As is there's not much more than the rendered design available.

And honors the stretch goal attained for X128 and XD128 I posted above.

There were comments made at CanJam last weekend about a Resin case being used due to heat requirements. There were also some jokes about metal components in the shape of an LH Brand so that there would be no mistake what burned you when you try to hold it. They were pretty clear that even the X 128 or whatever the upgraded one was would be resin, too. We didn't talk about skins, but I did t ask either.

They did mention that there would be physical buttons and no touch screen, and that even with thirty thousand tracks across internal storage and two SD cards the OS booted in less than four seconds. They had some interesting comments about the UI, and that we will be able to specify pretty much whatever style sheet or way we want it to look, so that is nice.

No touch screen? That's interesting.
I'm all hands down *pun intended* for a smaller screen size then (although feedback here at this point in time probably is moot). There's no point to a larger screen if 1) it's not a touch screen, 2) affects the battery life, 3) increases noise

Speaking of the UI, I forgot to ask AxelCloris to ask about any possible chance to have user-switchable themes similar to the popular FiiO X5, X3, and X1. I kind of doubt it though considering the current progress of the project so far and I guess that's one checkbox feature that the FiiO devices can have against the Wave so far.

The UI will be fully customizable. Not sure if they will ship with themes or just leave it to the community to come up with different sets of html to switch up the designs.

Heard from LHL for a (hopefully) definitive answer:

"There will be REAL carbon fiber and REAL titanium" and "Maybe skin wasn't the best word to use."

Cheers
