I tried out poweramp alpha 704 and I always get the failed to hi-res output as well. I saw only one other person that had the same issue.

Anyone have a link to download the 704 apk that the hi-res output works for the v20?

From reading the poweramp forum max isn't currently working on supporting the hi-res output for the v20 atm, and is focused on releasing the next iteration of poweramp(January 2017), then would work on the hi-res request list.

This was only a quick test, but I setup my V20 to output via 3.5mm to RCA into my "SYS" and then the Modi2u into the SYS as well. Then output both into my Vali 2 to try and compare the DACs. So far I've only tried 1 song, and I can hear that the Modi2U is brighter and clearer than that of the one in the V20. The V20 sounds a little duller, but seems to bring out more of the Tube sound in my Vali 2. It has nothing to do about which is better at this point... but I'm going to keep trying different tracks. It is just that, people saying the V20 is better than the Mojo or other external DACs leaves me a little quizzical, as IMHO... the lowly Modi2u seems like it might be more resolving.

Though, in the end... I still do not feel the need to "stack" the V20 when I'm out and about, it has a very nice "liquidy" sound all it's own.

In the poweramp / settings / audio / output
Whenever i try to use the hi-res output with my headphones (ath-a900x) it will say failed: poweramp hi-res exp output.

It will then proceed to default to the opensl es output instead and the files will then be 16bit - 48kHz

I just enabled High Impedance Mode for the first time with my IEMs. I use the Sony xb90ex, and these seem to respond well to more power. They're nt just louder, the seem to have more body, even at lower volume if that makes sense. I've been using AUX mode for the last year onn my V10 and now V20, but I'd alway want a bit more power for the xb90ex since when I play them with my FiiO E12 they sound a bit better to me. So I was happy to read in this thread that there is an easy way to trick into High Impedance Mode by using an analog volume control. I ordered this 2-pack from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DRQEAZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and after a bit of fiddling I got it to work

its because powramp alpha 704 does see snapdragon only and not the hifi dac

Yeah Sound, I have regular Poweramp. I use an external amp/DAC device (Oppo HA-2), so it doesn't matter for me now. But if I were to get a phone like the V20, I would need to know if REGULAR POWERAMP is gonna utilize or bypass the Quad DAC or not. Please answer this question only if you are 100% sure. ALL I care about is regular Poweramp. But go ahead and tell about Beta too.

The audio is still "Hi-Res", but down sampled to 48kHz.

PowerAMP Alpha 704 does use the ESS Sabre Hi-Fi Quad DAC, but just doesn't display it...it displays the Snapdragon processor instead.
This is also the case with the V10.

To test it, just turn the H-Fi DAC on and off and you'll notice a slight pause...the audio should also be clearer with more dynamic range if you are using a good set of headphones/IEMs.
