Say what you want, I like the new Opeth album more than the Fallujahs The Flesh Prevails. Not only because of the sound!
Heck, I even prefer the new Ceremonial Castings album over it!

Probably their best one yet: http://ceremonialcastings.bandcamp.com/

(I know this song got posted several times now but it's just too damn cool)

Cthulhu phantoms! (Didn't even read the word "cthulhu" before thinking this.)

I have at least three Cthulhu-themed albums. I'll check out the stuff you mentioned soon enough.

I just want to know why they're charging 15 bucks for that on Bandcamp. Do they realize how this works?

I've always loved their writing, but they couldn't make this album sound any worse if they tried.

Now, now, that's the way the artist intended it to sound. :beerchug:

Haaaaahahaha, I knew that would be coming. I respect tr00 kvlt black metalers wanting to make their **** sound like it was recorded on a tape, and then recorded on another tape, which was then stomped on, and then recorded over the previous tape. I've just never liked it. I mean they even sound like that LIVE. They just like that horrible tone for some reason. I'll never understand it. It'd still sound like crap even if it was DR10.

Who knows? Maybe if they went into that studio with trying to by a bit more dynamic that attitude would "overflow" to other areas of the mix and master. The Infernal Curse EP is like this as well.

I keep telling ya, it's not about the DR score, it's about attitude. But when the DR score is like 2 or 3, you have a clear idea what that attitude was going in. Just saying bro, just saying... :D

This actually would be an example for a band compressing their album on purpose to make it sound like it´s coming from the deep ocean (a member of the band posted this on a forum a while ago). It does make sense if you look at it that way, but I still wish I could hear it in just a normal more dynamic version.

The song itself really is amazing though. And I love the artwork.

Yeah, raw production is definitely an acquired taste when it gets to a certain point, but to me it adds a bit of mystique or magic to the experience, as if I'm dusting off a long-forgotten ancient tome... *goes off the rails*

The first kvlt production that I really appreciated was probably Schattenvald:

Want to hear high dynamics and a canvernous record, here you go (not saying it's stellar production either but in the same line aesthetically - actually I forgot what I thought of that record....it got a lot praise from the usual outlets).

It's a very not bandcamp-ish price, I have to admit.

Their style of Black Metal is so damn cheesy! I love it ♥
Sound-wise it's exactly like their other albums, if you ask me.

I'm really not into Raw BM but Ceremonial Castings make it sound so damn charming :)
Not trve or kvlt or whatever. Just like a whole lot of fun. Really could not imagine them with e.g. Behemoth-ish sound.

Oh and look at the DR....it's above average!

Any arguments for brickwalling are void, even that DR5 isn't getting anywhere in the vicinity of peaking

Thanks for the recommendation - will check it out !

But I´m a bit curious now...what do you think of Swalloed By The Ocean´s Tide musically? I really quite dig some of the songs
