First band had me until the vocals kicked in.

Second band was just right.

I saw the Agonist live once, and it was the first time I ever heard their music. Her vocals was what caught my attention. She was much louder and more dominant than any of the other vocalists that night.

Vocals not my favourite but not bad....the guitar tone is amazing and the thrash / riff driven influences are spot on

Thanks for the tip!

Ahh, vocals do sound slightly over the top in the song posted.

It is really an album to listen to in whole. The song posted is from the middle of the album. Somehow the vocals fit when listening to it as one work, as there is a build-up to the song posted.

I see it as pure symphonic black metal almost sounding like it was from 1999. No post sound in it at all.

For me anyway the album is like going back to what I loved about both The Mantle and Stormblast, but mixed together in a cool way.

95% Stormblast 5% The Mantle

It has a nostalgic vibe for me as well, that takes me back to my youth in the early nineties. I actually really like these kind of vocals. I prefer high pitched and intense to deep and gruff. :)

I meant thrash as in riff driven, rather than frantic tremolo on blast beats....melody, riffing, whatever LOL I like it and the guitar tone just slays. After a couple listens the vocals have found their groove for me. Great listen and purchase on the way!

Oh and Soup, great list!

Ahh, you reminded me of a few I forgot. The new Katatonia is excellent. Why they aren't more popular is beyond me. And when I first read Illnath, I thought it was Ishahn. His new album is excellent. I've enjoyed all of his solo albums, but this one is the best IMO. Wasn't blown away by the new Amon Amarth, but it was good. And Dillinger's first album was brilliant, but since then, I can't seem to get into them. The new one really left me flat.
