Right, I should have writen that I don't hear any diference. In reality, I do find myself adjusting one of the channels ever so slighty, from time to time... but that's good enough for me.

I have a chance to use SRM-727A modded with KOSS ESP 95X

comparing with the stock amp. It's no difference (only noise reduction is better because of XLR)

But changing the earpads is much improved. The soundstage is bigger and airier.

It opens up on the long side and has a magnetic latch. This sits right next to my couch & desk so now my wife and I can both enjoy a 95X while watching TV (Have both the Koss Energizer & a Stax SRM-323A w/adapter).

I'm kinda feeling some seller's remorse for getting rid of these a year or two ago. What's the going rate of these on the non-X model on the used market? I'm kind of a sucker for that 90s aesthetic leather carrying case. If it's too much more I might just opt for the 95X, though.

I'm half-tempted to sell/trade my LCD-3 to reacquire a set of these.

I have been having fun using my ESP950 with a SRD-7 Pro Stax adapter. I am using a Topping D10 to a ARC LS7 pre to a Cary Rocket 88 all tube power amp to the SRD-7. The Cary puts out 40 watts ultra linear or 20 watts in trios mode. Yesterday I was having a problem with one channel dropping in volume. I had just swapped all the 6922 tubes in the ARC so that wasn’t that, looked over at the Cary and I noticed one of the driver tubes was getting, meaning a leak. Those tubes, also 6922/6DJ8 were a pair of JAN Phillips 6922. So I replaced them with some Ei 6DJ8 tubes that I had and back to work it was.
So last night and tonight it was fun filled music.

Kind of surprised the Koss/Massdrop version hasn't reappeared in over a year. Is it due to the pandemic and parts shortage or did the companies have a falling out? Perhaps they are working on a new Energizer?

Well Koss still lists the ESP950 and it is for sale on Amazon. Rumor has it that Koss is working on something. Now whether it is a whole new headphone system or improved parts on the existing setup. Personally I would love to see them terminate the phones with a Stax plug and at least have an option for a much improved energizer.

The Koss energizer sounds better than the mid-tier Stax energizers on the Koss headphones. I think it's due to the higher bias voltage.

I don’t know if my SRM1 MK2 is considered mid tier or not but would definitely pick it over the stock Koss energizer .

Which STAX amps are mid-tier to you? The Koss energizer is without a doubt lacking.
