Kogan 8GB MP4 - The Player That Came From Nowhere:
Oct 31, 2016 at 11:26 AM Post #1,666 of 1,681
I was just searching around on aliexpress and found this player:
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2015-NEW-8GB-7th-FM-Mp3-Mp4-MP5-Player-with-Camera-Game-Video-1-8-inch/201947_32380572304.html

The screen size looks 2.4 to me not 1.8.
Camera on the back like Kogan. The SoC is maybe ATJ2237 too.
There's no info about the firmware or FLAC support.
It's interesting, sadly the product details are not very informative.

I've found the player on globalsources:

Anyone has experience with this player?

People who are looking for Kogan successor should check Newsmy A33. The main difference from Kogan is Newsmy A33 is a bit warmer and less powerful.

Since the battery was unable to hold a charge and the player is able to work when connected to a powersource, even with the mains switch in "off", I decided to make a batery case. I am using 3 normal batteries and got the player to work a couple of weeks. It's big and bulky, but it works.

Finally, i have found my Kogan replacement: mpman MP259 8GB

I am still testing it, but Pop EQ settings (as far as i remember) sounds very close to Kogan in terms of detail, dynamics and soundstage. The UI is very similiar too. http://www.head-fi.org/g/a/1116004/mpman-mp259-8gb/
The player's chassis is aluminium with plasic parts on the front. Best 40€ i have spent for a while.

Neat. MPMan is the brand that gave us one of the very first mp3 players, if not the first. How old is it?

Somehow the battery is still alive on my Kogan, and I decided to see how well it pairs with the K's Poseidon earbud. If memory serves the Kogan has a slightly bright signature, which compliments this earbud quite well. Rachmaninoff sounds absolutely fantastic. It's reminding me how much I've been neglecting listening to classical music, something I feel I should remedy soon.

Is anybody still using the old Kogan? Mine died for good sometime ago, but I am wondering if I should get one again (and if you know where, let me know please), go for a DAC for my phone or get the Cayin N3 that I liked so much sometime ago. Oh, an hi @Redcarmoose.
