There was no phat mod when I owned the AD2000, that mod came later.
In the end I sold the K701 too. Although they did sound quite good with the Black Dragon cable.
The last time I checked Amsterdam was not in the US.

Kenwood makes EXCEPTIONAL cake mixers so I would expect them to also make top quality headphone gear.

Kenwood was once known for making excellent audio gear. In the 70's they made some of the nicest budget turntables you could buy. They also had a higher-end line that was pretty good, but was never all that popular. I'm not sure if they ever completely exited the audio business, but they have certainly had periods when their audio products were, at a minimum, not very widely distributed in the USA.

But they are NOT a cake mixer company

I used to have one of these, and I can asure you that they are of exceptionally high quality. In the same league as the much sought after Marantz vintage gear.

Well, in looking into them, they are 42 ohm. While that's not super-low impedance, I really would prefer something higher for a better match with my various tube amps. So, for now the search for a new can to try continues, although this is still a temptation...

But how well does the 336i respond to lower ohm headphones? I know it likes them to be around 200 or so, from what I've read.

All of the headphone amps I have are spec'd to handle headphones 30 ohms and above, including the 336, but nonetheless, they seem happier with more like at least 70/80 ohms. The 70 ohm JVC DX1000's sound amazing via my DV 337, and good via the 336, and while the Denon D5000's (27 ohms) sound very good on the 337, they sound less good on the 336 (although still pretty good - just not up to their full potential)

They perform very well straight out of the headphone jack of my Cowon D2.

I wonder how they compare to the Denon D2000.
Anybody in these regions have D2000 I can try?
