After my first unit had some channel imbalance, KBEAR reached out and sent a me replacement at no cost and there is now much improved channel balancing
That's a reference sound signature for cheap, it graphs something like an etymotic.

I'm personally hoping for the i3 Pro. It's just a more interesting set, even if it's likely to be twice the cost or more. I would love to see them throw a beryllium DD into the i3 Pro, as unlikely as that is given the pricepoint they're aiming for with it, but I can dream, right? Beryllium DD are supposed to have a really beautiful bass signature.I think he knows. Which will enter the market first Aurora or i3pro?

True full beryllium single DD types that I've tried eg KBEAR Believe, DUNU LUNA, Final Audio A8000, they have quite textured bass and take EQ like a champ, that's kind of a hallmark for full beryllium sets.
A lot of budget CHIFI are using plated/coated beryllium sets, I've tried some of those, they don't really sound anything special from a conventional DD driver. I kinda suspect some CHIFI are riding on the beryllium hypetrain and just sprinkling a few bits of beryllium and using it as a marketing gimmick. So at the end of the day, I think implementation is more important.
Beryllium is also toxic to process, so I guess if it is done properly for an IEM, it would probably add labour costs too.
The official DUNU folks here on headfi made some interesting comments about the lining/material of drivers: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-discovery-thread.586909/page-2968#post-15288735
"The PVD layer has to be thick enough and the microscopic grain pattern has to be regular enough to confer that pistonic motion beryllium is so famous for. That's why our sub-$100 products (DM-380 and DM-480) are still titanium drivers. Even the TITAN 6, at $139, is only coated on one side."
DUNU says they have difficulty implementing this Beryllium coating in their sub $100 USD gear. And we already see unit variation in macroscopic areas in these budget CHIFI in terms of sound and build, so how some of these $30 - 50 USD CHIFI budget IEMs can ensure good QC for all their units when it comes to microscopic application of these novel materials in the proper layering is a big question.

As Wendy has stated the Aurora is a single DD, I expect it to be Beryllium.
If that is the case then it will be going up against the recently released NiceHCK Lofty which is 10.1mm single Beryllium DD for $239.
Early impressions of the Lofty are starting to come through.
Hopefully @WendyLi will provide more details on the Aurora soon if it is directly competing against the Lofty.

It would be interesting if this is the KB Ear version of the Plume. Same driver count and connector-type as well.
It's also advertised as a hybrid flagship, so 100+ USD??? If less than that, then it would be much, much more interesting as a replacement (not successor) to the Diamond in that price bracket.
Like this design by KB Ear more.
