k1000 owners club

Hello everyone! Recently joined the club and acquired a bass heavy K1000 (serial number in the 4000’s). They’re in great cosmetic condition and sound amazing. I have a bit of the buzzing problem with the low end, but am a bit hesitant to try the repair with glue myself. Is there anyone you guys can recommend who would do a repair service?

I do have one other slightly more worrying problem, when turned up a bit on the volume I heard a couple popping noises in the left ear. Inspecting the board, it seems that one of the two rectangular terminals has a small black mark on it. If I’m not mistaken, are these terminals where the thin voice coil wire connects to the board? I’ve only been using them relatively low volume since for worries of potentially damaging the wire if that’s the case, it sounded like an electrical popping.

Soweit beide Seiten grundsätzlich funktionieren, könnte ich deine K1000 reparieren.
Allerdings hängt es stark von Ihrem Wohnort ab, da die Transportkosten heutzutage sehr hoch sind.
Wow, thank you so much for the offer Heinz! Your work and commitment to the K1000 and Mysphere is legendary, and after trying the K1000 I find myself tempted to get a Mysphere 3.2 soon.

I am in New York City, I can cover the shipment costs, I'd really love this K1000 preserved as best as possible. Both sides work. Thank you again!

Hi owners!
Recently, I reached a question mark after looking into some measurements.

In Isolation's measurements, the K1000 shows different characteristics from other headphones under 200 Hz.

Should I say this is a structural characteristic? Or did they measure it the wrong way? I'm very interested.

Those measurments depend very much on the measuring conditions. So if it's measured in a free field and the direction of, or measured in an echoic chamber (as it should be).
Additionaly for the K1000 it depend additionally to the angle of the drivers to the ears.
The measured curve looks additionally so that a K1000 with very high resonance frequency was used. Because the drop might be the membrane itself.
Best regards, Heinz

What can I do in this case? There's nothing wrong with the sound, but it's likely to sound different from the designed sound.
I wonder how it happened. Probably very humid environment? Considering the serial number, this is quite an old pair, circa 1991.
The magnets were never sold separately as a spare part, only the whole driver assembly. So, it is probably impossible to buy them. Unless, Heinz knows the exact specification and where to get exactly the same magnets, it is a lost cause. If the headphones work fine, I would leave them like that.

That is probably why developing the Mysphere Heinz decided to use gold-plated magnets. Pretty smart. This will never happen with the Mysphere.

Yeah, I bought it on ebay, it was cheap one. it seems to be neglected for a long time(such as humid environment).

It seems to be get rusty on their surface.

I checked how driver works, It works fine!(quite suprise :) )

But I worried about rusty magnets lost its magnet power and lost its original sound.

I think I’d better to leave it alone.

I drive my k1000 with an old YAMAHA amplifier dsp-a2070..

Yamaha amplifier have much power to drive my k1000. Sound is pretty good. It doesn’t break its sound signature.

I think if you have amplifier which have enough power to drive speakers (around 100w) you can use them.

Guys, what is the best suited Amp for K1000?
I am mostly using my Sennheiser HDVA 600. Its adjustable gain (14dB, 22dB, 30dB, 38dB & 46dB) is mostly set to 22dB and the gainknob is at 50%. I am very happy with the presentation.
I also use a RME ADI-2 PRO with auto gain. But I have to pump it up to -3dBFS. Might solder a Y-cable sometimes to use the second phone plug.
