I bought a pair for 2,800 and sold for 2,600. That was 6 months or so ago. Haven't been following it since.

What I really meant wasn't so much a report on what they're trading hands for these days but on what keeps their prices high. Sonic qualities? Rarity factor? Leather fetish?

Skylab I noticed you got yourself a DX 700 now. What is the differences between the DX700 and DX 1000?

I have both of these too, but would love to hear Skylab's rundown on these two headphones.  I haven't spent enough time with both of them on the same amp/source to give much of an opinion as to differences.

The DX700 are really quite good. They are both a little more neutral, but just a little less transparent than the DX1000. I think, though, given the prices of each, I would probably recommend the DX700 to people. I'm not sure which I like more, exactly, but the DX700 will probably appeal to more people. Still lots of Great bass! And luscious mids that re a little less funky on the 700 than the 1000.

@Skylab & IceNine

Im a dx700 owner myself, wondering what its like on the other, more expensive side, hehe.

I got the dx700 for two main reasons: Bass and Soundstage (OK, isolation too, but thats the least important).

Ive read conflicting reports on the Bass differnces of the two..so how different (or how similar) are they really?

And would you think they use the same drivers?

Heard Winks DX1000 last night for about 5 seconds....that was all I needed to confirm that I liked it more than my D7000s.

No idea on the drivers.

The bass on both seems pretty similar.  The overall sound, in fact, is fairly similar.  The main things that struck me were that the DX700 seemed to have slightly flatter response in the midrange, but that the overall sound was just a little "granier".
